Matt Groening’s high fantasy Simpsons style show Disenchantment is still getting its third season, and Netflix wants to make sure folks know about it. Part 3 of the Netflix exclusive animated comedy is coming out very soon, and Netflix released a new trailer for folks who are interested in the ongoing adventures of Bean, Elfo, and Luci. The teaser showcases everything fans expect from the show, with the dysfunctional princess returning to the castle where danger lies around every corner.
The basic premise of Disenchantment is fairly simple: it’s a fantasy world but the protagonists don’t fit in to the societal roles they are expected to fill. Bean is an alcoholic, rebellious princess who isn’t content to sit around being pretty for the benefit of her royal kingdom. Similarly, Elfo also feels out of step with his community and longs for something else. This leads to the two of them meeting by chance and venturing out together, with Bean’s personal demon Luci in tow.
As for season 3, Netflix has this for the synopsis: “The excitement builds in Disenchantment Part 3 as Bean continues to grow into her power and own her destiny. As the fearless friends venture out to discover new worlds, they might just find there really is no place like home.” Not exactly a specific description for the plot, but after 3 seasons fans probably know what they’re getting into, and being on Netflix, there’s a fairly low barrier to entry for anyone who’s interested in giving the show a chance. Netflix also showed off a brand new poster for season 3, which shows princess Bean hanging onto a rope underneath a flying airship.
Overall the reception for Disenchantment has been somewhat mixed. Some critics have praised the show as being clever, charming, and wacky, while others have criticized it for playing things too safe. It hasn’t quite attracted the passionate fanbase of Futurama, or the classic status of The Simpsons, but the show still has its share of fun moments and likeable characters for those who just want another Matt Groening production. For those who are waiting on the edge of their seats for the next season, or just looking for another comedy to pass the time, Disenchantment may be worth a try when the third season hits in early January.
Disenchantment Part 3 releases on January 15, 2021.
