Although Hades released in Early Access two years ago, the game stole the hearts of many gamers upon its official release this September. Developer Supergiant Games experimented with Hades‘ roguelike and action RPG gameplay greatly, even adding mechanics akin to dating-sim games to further immerse players into the game’s Greek mythology-infused story.
With eight nominations and being the only indie game to be nominated for Game of the Year, Hades performed incredibly well at this year’s The Game Awards 2020, taking home the awards for Best Indie and Best Action Game. Coming fresh off of these wins, it seems that Supergiant Games is intent on keeping Hades at the front of gamers’ minds, as the developer just announced a cross-save update for the popular roguelike.
Upon its official release, Hades became incredibly popular on the Nintendo Switch, and on Twitter today Supergiant Games announced cross-save capability for Hades between the Switch and PC versions of the game. In the tweet, the developer also includes brief instructions on how to transfer save data to and from the Switch version.
Although this new update enables for cross-save compatibility between the two versions of Hades, the update must be downloaded and enabled on the Nintendo Switch version, allowing for save data transfer. To enable cross-save data transfer, players need to navigate to the Cross-Saves selection in the Main Menu on the Nintendo Switch version and select the option to connect either their Steam or Epic Games account. It is also worth noting that Supergiant Games mentions this update includes other improvements for the Nintendo Switch version of the game, keeping it up to date with the most current PC version.
This update may provide incentive for PC players who previously experienced the game in Early Access to purchase the Nintendo Switch version for the chance to take one of the most popular indies of 2020 on the go. This may also apply vice-versa, as anyone already used to the Nintendo Switch version of Hades may now want to experience the game on a high-powered PC at home with their recent save data.
Aside from its critical and commercial success, Hades has developed a speedrunning community of its own as well. As the new year swiftly approaches, it will be interesting to see if Supergiant Games has more in store for fans of the addictive dungeon crawler in the coming months.
Hades is available now on Nintendo Switch and PC.
