Blizzard is planning on giving its next big update regarding Diablo 4 soon. A Diablo 4 announcement is planned for BlizzCon 2021, according to Blizzard, which will look different than previous years due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Diablo 4’s initial reveal came with a gameplay trailer at BlizzCon 2019. In the year since, there has been next to nothing in terms of visual content for the immensely popular ARPG series. In a post on the official Blizzard website, Diablo 4 Game Director Luis Barriga elaborates upon a few updates for certain aspects of the title. As the game’s final quarterly update for 2020, the blog discusses the latest developments on major elements of the game, including:
- Skill Trees
- Primary Stats
- Weapon Types
- Item Qualities
- Legendary Affixes
- Uniques
These updates look to drastically shift Diablo‘s meta going forward. The full scope of changes can be viewed on Blizzard’s site, but one of the most prominent updates is to Diablo 4‘s skill trees. The Skill Trees will be more expensive to respec, pushing players to invest heavily in their characters. The developers have also stated that all stats will be important this time around, marking a departure from their handling in Diablo 3.
Barriga also teased that rather than a blog post, the next update will take place during next year’s online-only BlizzCon. He claims that while there’s been a lot of speculation, it can be rest assured what is coming is “something chunky indeed.” The director heavily hints at a trailer, mentioning a new version of the campfire scene shown last year. Thankfully, this year fans won’t have to pay to watch, as BlizzCon Online will be free to watch.
Diablo 4‘s bold new approach to its gameplay looks to reinvigorate the franchise for the next generation. While some information surrounding the game has been revealed, players are still in the dark about many aspects. These include the available classes, which many fans hope is what will be revealed at the online BlizzCon. While there’s likely to be new and returning classes, there are several classes that likely won’t be included at launch.
While the game still has no official release date, that may change at some point between now and February 2021. Things are looking up for the franchise, especially following the infamous Diablo Immortal reveal. However, Blizzard has recently said play testers for the controversial mobile game are “hugely enthusiastic.” Players should take this with a grain of salt, however, as these comments are coming from the developer themselves.
Diablo 4 is currently in development.
