Cyberpunk 2077‘s main protagonist, V, can be augmented and upgrade with cybernetic enhancements. Some of these take the form of weapons, such as the iconic Mantis Blades or Gorilla Arms, while others affect their natural capabilities. Unfortunately, there are a limited number of slots available for these cybernetics, so players will have to choose between two leg enhancements: Double Jump or Charge Jump.
The theme of Cyberpunk 2077 is that the only limit to what players can do is what they’re willing to become. Through technology and cybernetics, people in this world can become deadly killing machines or perform otherwise impossible feats.
Within the leg Cyberware slot, players only have two choices. Fortified Ankles will unlock Charged Jump, allowing players to charge up a jump and leap high into the air. On the other hand, installing Reinforced Tendons will allow the player to jump a second time when already in the air. Obviously, there’s no one option that’s superior to the other, but they are markedly different.
Which enhancement players choose depends entirely on what’s more important to them. In the case of the Fortified Ankles and the Charged Jump ability, this is king for reaching high places and exploring Night City. By holding down the jump button, players can charge up their jump to reach great vertical heights. Unfortunately, this option doesn’t provide much maneuverability in the air, and it will be mostly useless in tight spaces. Players with Fortified Ankles may be at a disadvantage in close quarters combat indoors.
On the other hand, the Reinforced Tendons upgrade that unlocks Double Jump provides great maneuverability and can be effectively used even in tight spaces, but won’t help players gain too much height. Players can use this to traverse Night City faster or move around during combat, but in terms of exploration it won’t unlock too much. This works exactly how players would expect, pressing the jump button again in midair allows players to perform another jump, changing direction or breaking a fall are all useful perks of this upgrade.
Overall, it’s likely that the Double Jump ability will be useful in more situations. A lot of Cyberpunk 2077 takes place indoors or in enclosed areas, and there usually isn’t too much verticality involved. Anywhere that requires that sort of thing usually also offers players other ways up, so having Double Jump for its utility will be useful. That said, it’s really up to each player which they like better.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, and later on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
