United States Space Force Member Gets Demoted Due to PS5-Related Tardiness

The PS5 is arguably the most elusive console to date, as Sony is struggling to keep up with the immensely high demand for its console. To make matters worse, scalpers use bots to buy up stock before anyone is able to get their hands on any restock, and even major retailer websites are unable to handle the weight of players rushing to get one.

While this has caused many diehard Sony fans heaps of dismay, it has affected one Space Force Airman drastically. Their search for a PS5 had some unintended consequences, ultimately resulting in their demotion. Most would probably agree that the console isn’t worth that kind of setback.

It’s no secret that the PS5 is difficult to come by, and it seems that retailers are all doing things differently. Several lucky souls have managed to find them sitting on the shelves at Walmarts and the like, while others are being told that they can only be purchased online. It’s very difficult to tell what’s what in this regard, so some hopeful players have found themselves going store to store in search of the console.

This was the case for this Senior Airman (now Airman First Class) as he ended up being late to his Fitness Improvement Program (FIP) because he was out searching Targets for a PS5. It seems as though this wasn’t the first time he was late to an FIP, but this was the straw that broke the camel’s back. The letter of reprimand details the events rather thoroughly, showing that the the Airman even received a reminder text asking if he’d be on time to the program.

In response to this reminder text, the Airman said “Yolo, PS5 > letters of discipline.” While this may or may not be true, he must not have expected to be demoted for the stunt. Perhaps the worst part of all of this is that odds are the Airman didn’t even manage to get his hands on a PS5, as most Targets are following the online only policy for purchasing the console. If he had managed to get one, the story would have at least had a bright side, but it seems much more probable that he’s now an Airman First Class without a PS5.

Some feel as though this punishment was too harsh, as the demotion will not only affect his career but also comes with a pay cut. On the other hand, this sort of behavior definitely isn’t in line with the professionalism expected from the Space Force, so it really doesn’t come as much of a surprise.

The PS5 is available now.
