Apex Legends fans may know the best weapons in Season 7 but which character has the best ultimate? These abilities can deal more damage than any gun in the game if utilized correctly, or back enemy teams and players into terrible situations.
It’s not easy learning the ins and outs of every legend in the game. Players need to know how their legend’s ultimate works, its strengths and weaknesses, and how to implement it in battle. That and which ultimates stink too bad to be worth using.
15 Octane – Jump Pad
Mobility is king in Apex Legends but the Jump pad can’t offer it in levels that other ultimates can. Sure, crafty Octane players can use it to make certain doorways impassible, but other legends have better traps they can set as well. Its best use is for trying to outflank opponents which can also be done just by using more strategic gameplay with any other character who has a better ultimate.
14 Rampart – Emplaced Minigun “Sheila”
The biggest issue with pulling out “Sheila” is how easy it can be for people using this ultimate to get flanked. Players in the know can place Amped Cover behind them to help but it’s not a perfect fix. This ultimate also works well when firing into chokepoints but outside of that can’t pack on the damage like other ultimates are able. It just lacks the flexibility that it sorely needs.
13 Wattson – Interception Pylon
Interception Pylon can be fantastic, especially in team play. The reason why it is so low here is it lacks good utility when in solo play like other defensive ultimates. It can still be quite powerful, especially as the map shrinks or whenever an airstrike is called. It can also help players who need to heal up their shields in a tight pinch. Just make sure to hide it in a good location.
12 Loba – Black Market Boutique
It’s not that Black Market Boutique is a bad ultimate, it’s that other ultimates offer more utility. If teams are already well equipped, the most it can do is try to steal away items in the area before enemy teams can get them. Players also need to be careful that enemies can’t get into the hidden stash themselves and get serious power boosts. It takes a player with good know how to use this ultimate correctly.
Not to mention, players knowing where the best items drop on a stage can simply snag them before Loba can use this to her advantage. Map knowledge is very important!
11 Revenant – Death Totem
The Death Totem can an effective but risky ultimate to pull off. Players that don’t know how to play Revenant and place it in a bad location can allow their opponents to have the advantages of turning into a shadow as well.
It can also leave players susceptible to things like Nox Gas Traps that negate their shields when they are low on health. Players have to rush in with everything they’ve got and make the most of this ultimate. It’s a bit more of a gamble than more consistent abilities.
10 Crypto – Drone EMP
The toughest thing about Crypto’s ultimate is how it can hurt the player that uses it. This requires players to use it very carefully to try and only hurt opponents while not hurting themselves or slowing down their teammates. It can be a strong ultimate but it simply takes less expertise to use ultimates for other legends.
9 Bangalore – Rolling Thunder
The thing players get wrong most when using Bangalore is that her ultimate is not just meant to deal damage. It’s not strong enough to take down players on its own so teams need to close in and keep dealing damage. Rolling Thunder can put pressure on opponents as well as offer cover when players need to retreat. It can also be quite an explosive way to start an ambush if timed correctly.
8 Bloodhound – Beast of the Hunt
It’s hard to get shot if players can know their opponent’s locations and take cover accordingly. Beast of the Hunt gives players nowhere to hide. As long as players understand Bloodhound and don’t use it too close to opponents, they won’t be able to hear the noise they make when the ultimate begins. From there, the hunt begins. Using this combined with Tracker can help teams absolutely crush their enemies. It can also be used in solo play by any players with strong sniping skills.
7 Mirage – Life of the Party
Mirage isn’t Naruto but with his ultimate, he might as well be. (Admit it, imagining Mirage saying “Shadow Clone Jutsu” is laugh-worthy). Players looking to maximize Mirage’s potential should be sure to make a major move while the invisibility lasts to throw opponents off and make it harder to know which Mirage isn’t a decoy. Players can use Life of the Party to distract opponents while reviving teammates as well. Unprepared opponents will likely feel overwhelmed and may even attempt to retreat to safer cover making it have slight defensive utility as well.
6 Horizon – Black Hole
Players looking to master Horizon will need to understand how her Black Hole works. The N.E.W.T can be destroyed and only has 200HP so players need to be careful where they place it. It explodes into a gravitron blast when it ends after twelve seconds, dealing damage.
What makes Black Hole the strongest is when it is combined with other ultimate in team play. Keeping players stuck in a Nox Gas Grenade, Defensive Bombardment, or Rolling Thunder will decimate them. It can also be combined with Revenant’s Silence to great effect.
5 Caustic – Nox Gas Grenade
It’s not always easy using Caustic’s ultimate and not all players know how to do so correctly. It can manage tons of damage if enemy players or teams are backed into corners. It’s also strong to help zone players out of a certain area to force them into danger.
It is especially deadly in team play. Combining it with Horizon’s Black Hole or Gibraltar’s Defensive Bombardment can result in major casualties.
4 Lifeline – Care Package
Lifeline recently received some buffs which makes her a more attractive support legend than ever before. It’s hard to find something that can get players and teams out of tough situations than a well placed Care Package. Running low on supplies or having bad loot can seriously hinder effectiveness and Care Package offer the ultimate lifeline to get out of any pickle.
3 Wraith – Dimensional Rift
Players looking to play as Wraith will love the utility Dimensional Rift offers. When players need to retreat, it’s the ultimate ace up their sleeve. It can also be used for sudden dive bombs into enemy territory where a whole team comes through. Cheeky players can even set one end of the portal off the edge of a map which will kill any enemies that fall for the trap.
2 Pathfinder – Zipline
Mobility is a key aspect in any shooting game but especially in battle royales. Creative players can use Pathfinder’s ultimate to win engagements if they know all of its tricks. Choosing the right location can help teams reposition rapidly, disorienting opponents. It also can allow players to set up in unexpected places where opponents may forget to check. Just be sure to keep an eye out so enemies can’t utilize it themselves.
1 Gibraltar – Defensive Bombardment
Despite its name, Defensive Bombardment offers flexibility to be utilized for offensive purposes as well. It deals enough damage that smart players will get out of its path, so combining it with another ultimate like Rolling Thunder, Nox Gas Grenade, and especially Black Hole, can decimate opposing squads.
Smart players won’t forget just how nice it can be to have cover when a retreat is in order either. This ultimate utility is what makes it the best ultimate in the game.
