Cyberpunk 2077 Releases Next Major Hot Fix Targeting Quest Bugs, Crashing

When developer CD Projekt Red acknowledged the problems with Cyberpunk 2077 in a message to gamers it also promised that an update would release within 7 days of the statement’s posting. That update has now arrived for PS4 and Xbox One (backward compatible on Xbox Series and PS5) and claims to fix numerous issues with the game. The PC version of the update should be available soon.

In a post on the Cyberpunk 2077 website, CD Projekt Red outlines the various fixes, stability improvements, and tweaks that are included with the update. While there is certainly a lot to cover, the bulk of the patch seems to be focused on eliminating any quest bugs that were hindering players’ progress, either because something wasn’t triggering properly or because the game couldn’t acknowledge what to do next.

Outside of quest progression bugs, there are a couple of smaller fixes that should make players’ experience better overall. NPCs will take cover and react faster after the update, which should hopefully, give the open world a little more believability. The bug that was sometimes leaving a player’s aiming reticule visible outside of combat is also gone.

Of course, the key note in the update log is “Multiple stability improvements, including crash fixes.” While every players’ mileage will vary with Cyberpunk 2077 depending on platform and luck, there is plenty of anecdotal evidence to suggest that the crashes and the game’s stability were major concerns. As of this writing, many players are saying that the game runs a lot better on consoles, so there is positive news out there.

While this is no doubt a welcome update for Cyberpunk 2077 players who have stuck with the game despite its issues, even CDPR has acknowledged that there is a lot of work to do. Presumably, there will be more patches like this released in the coming weeks, but there are at least two larger updates planned for January and February.

The content of these updates is unknown at this time, but the indication by CDPR is that they will focus on getting the console versions into a stable and playable state. As it stands right now, there are reports of players on both base PS4 and Xbox One consoles who have encountered numerous bugs, some of which prevent them from even making progress through the game.

The issues are so significant for Cyberpunk 2077 that both Sony and Microsoft have altered their refund policies to accommodate those who want to get their money back. The former even delisted Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store, preventing anyone from purchasing the digital version of the game on either the PS4 or PS5. The retail versions are still available, but even retailers like Best Buy are starting to offer refunds beyond their typical rules.

But for those who are sticking with Cyberpunk 2077, the speed with which CD Projekt Red has released updates and patches should be encouraging. Some employees may not be happy with management at CDPR, but the goal is to make gamers happy with their purchase.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now. for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
