Cyberpunk 2077 Launch Issues Were Predicted By Summit1g

While there was a lot of excitement around Cyberpunk 2077 before and during its launch, at least one Twitch streamer thought there might be problems from the start. Jaryd ‘Summit1g’ Lazar was confident enough that Cyberpunk 2077 was going to have issues early on that he told his followers he wasn’t going to play it right away.

The situation came up during a stream just before CD Projekt Red’s latest project landed on store shelves. Summit1g was asked whether he planned to play Cyberpunk 2077. “I’m going to skip it on release. I’ll play it another time,” he said, according to Dexerto. “From my recollection, you give a game enough time to update, and give it some months and months, and you’ll play a better version later on.” He went on to say potential bugs weren’t the only reason he didn’t want to play it right away. Summit1g said he watched a few other streamers ahead of launch and wasn’t impressed with what he saw.

Lazar concluded his comments saying he’s not someone who jumps on single-player games all that often. While Cyberpunk 2077 is going to offer a multiplayer mode eventually, problems with the game’s launch caused CD Projekt Red to delay work on the next mode. The company said it wants to iron out every glitch and bug as best it can before launching a brand-new mode that could cause more problems.

The release of the game on December 10 came with a myriad of complaints by those who did try it out immediately. At first, the game drew rave reviews from critics, and it still carries a Metacritic aggregate score well over 80. However, some wondered whether Cyberpunk 2077 was rushed out, despite several delays. As users got deeper into the gameplay, videos and pictures posted to social media showed one glitch after another.

Not long after the first reports surfaced, CD Projekt Red announced it would facilitate refunds for Cyberpunk 2077 for any that wanted them, and would do so on as many platforms as possible. On the flipside, the company promised continued support for players who kept the game.

CD Projekt Red also announced it is planning two large patches that are expected to release in January and February 2021. While users wait for those updates, the company continues to try and iron out smaller bugs along the way. This weekend, the 1.05 patch landed on the PS4 and Xbox One. Unfortunately, several players reported that if that update was supposed to make any significant improvements to Cyberpunk 2077, it likely failed to do so.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. It will release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2021.
