Following a dark twist on some fun racing side quests and learning the true intentions of Claire, V will need to decide if they should kill Sampson, let him live, or finish the final race. Below is a guide to The Beast in Me side quest’s final stretch in Cyberpunk 2077. This guide will contain spoilers for this side quest.
Once V starts gaining a strong reputation around Night City in Cyberpunk 2077, Claire will contact them and ask them for help with some races. After completing these three qualifying races, one in the Badlands, on in City Center, and one in Santo Domingo, V and Claire will make it to the final race. Prior to this, Claire reveals to V that her husband had previously been killed in one of these races by another driver, Sampson. Rather than winning the final races and getting the prize money, Claire wants V’s help to get back at Sampson and kill him in the final showdown.
During the final race of The Beast in Me, Sampson will stick out in front, leading in first place. Claire tells V to stay close to his car so that she can damage it. At some point, Cyberpunk 2077 will prompt the player with a task, either finish the race or continue to tail Sampson as he veers off with a severely damaged vehicle. This is the first of three choices V can make that will change the outcome of the Cyberpunk quest.
V can choose to ignore Claire’s request to follow Sampson’s car off the highway and finish the race instead. However, this will upset Claire to the point where she may turn hostile towards V when she’s encountered later on in Cyberpunk 2077. But if V is able to get first place, they’ll be awarded a large amount of experience, street cred, and $2780. Additionally, sometime after the race, Sampson will text V that he’s giving them his ride, a Type-66 CTHULHU, as thanks for keeping Claire off of him during the race.
If V follows Sampson off the road, he’ll crash and crawl out of the flipped, flaming car. When confronting him, Sampson reveals what V had previously suspected: this is what the races are all about. Dean was killed during the race, but this is a regular occurrence and isn’t against the rules, he explains, and even Claire has killed other drivers during races. This is the second time V will get a chance to save Sampson, but doing so this way will result in V getting both Sampson’s car and Claire’s truck, Beast, as a reward. This is considered the best ending of this Cyberpunk 2077 quest.
If V wants to save Sampson in Cyberpunk 2077, firstly, after the third race when Claire speaks to V with a view of the city, V will need to respond with “My priority is winning,” instead of agree to help Claire. Otherwise, Claire will be blinded by rage and not care what V has to say later on. When confronting Sampson, V will then need to say “Let him go,” to Claire to successfully save Sampson and get both vehicles. If the other dialogue option is chosen, V will only get Beast after finishing The Beast in Me.
However, either way, Claire will announce that she’s never going to race again and gives her truck to V permanently. The dialogue for helping Claire will not change whether or not the player stops Claire from killing Sampson, only how many rides they get as a reward for finishing the quest.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, and later on PS5 and Xbox Series X.
