Genshin Impact has finally added the long-awaited Dragonspine region to its map as the Version 1.2 update officially rolls out. Players are now able to explore an entirely new area, right in the heart of Teyvat, which promises exciting new quests, enemies, and even adorable animals.
Now that the update is available to all players, Travelers can not only explore Dragonspine, but also meet powerful new Genshin Impact characters like the alchemical genius, Albedo, and the fabled “Cocogoat,” Ganyu. They’ll also be able to test these new playable characters out against formidable new opponents, like a mighty Frostarm Lawachurl.
As per an official breakdown released by miHoYo, the game’s developer, Version 1.2 of the game introduces eight new monsters to the game, alongside three new wild animals. Monsters, of course, are simply fought by the player in exchange for experience and loot, however, animals in Genshin Impact can generally be hunted for cooking and crafting ingredients, like Slime Condensate and Raw Meat. It doesn’t seem like these new additions will feature particularly unique drops, but, given that Dragonspine is heavily associated with the Cryo Element, players shouldn’t be too surprised to discover that all of these new creatures are Cryo-affiliated.
The new monsters are evenly split, in that four of them are rather basic grunts, and four of them are more significant boss-like enemies. The three new animals are all essentially Cryo variants of existing adorable friends, like the common fox. As per miHoYo’s official announcement, the new monsters and animals are as follows:
- Mountain-Dwelling Hilichurls: Cryo Samachurl, Ice Shield Hilichurl Guard, Cryo Hilichurl Grenadier, Ice Shieldwall Mitachurl, Frostarm Lawachurl
- Fatui: Cryo Cicin Mage, Cryo Cicin
- Ruin Machina: Ruin Grader
- Animals: Snowboar, Cryo Crystalfly, Snow Fox
The new set of mountain-dwelling hilichurls finally includes a Cryo “shaman” (samachurl), along with an Ice Shield Guard and an Ice Shieldwall Mitachurl, the likes of which defend themselves with icy shields. The Cryo Hilichurl Grenadier unsurprisingly lobs Cryo Slimes at the player, and the Frostarm Lawachurl is a Cryo version of the hyper-armored Stonehide Lawachurl Elite Boss. Insofar as Fatui, the Cryo Cicin Mage is an ice version of the game’s existing Electro Cicin Mages, known for their lantern-like area of effect attack, and their ability to summon obnoxious Electro bats known as Electro Cicin. Needless to say, Cryo Cicin are thusly the Cryo versions of these obnoxious elemental bats.
The Ruin Grader is an upgraded version of the formidable Ruin Guard. Thankfully, it doesn’t float like a Ruin Hunter, but it does possess a sturdy set of armor that its rather defunct cousin, Ruin Guard, lacks. And last but not least, are the game’s three new animals. Cryo Crystalflies, like their standard and Geo variants, are glowing fairy-like beings that grant the player a Crystal Core when captured – these can be used to make the new Condensed Resin, so it’s especially valuable. Snowboar and Snow Foxes, on the other hand, are a new source of cooking meat for players. And thanks to Dragonspine’s sub-zero climate, players will also earn new “Chilled Meat” upon hunting down these animals, which can be processed into Raw Meat.
Genshin Impact is available now on the App Store, Google Play, PC, and PS4, and is currently in development for PS5 and Switch.
