Like with much of 2020, the days have come and gone with surprising quickness. The Epic Games Store‘s Holiday Sale’s already reached its half-way point. And with it, the midpoint of Epic Games Store‘s 15 Days of Free Games has also arrived. It’s now December 24, Christmas Eve, and the eighth of 15 free games has been unlocked. Today’s game is, hilariously, not exactly in-line with the holiday spirit. Regardless, it’s an excellent game and a steal at the price of absolutely free. It’s Inside, from developer Playdead.
In Inside, players take on the role of a young boy on a mysterious journey. Players will take the boy on a 2D side-scrolling adventure filled with puzzles and platforming. But the heart of Inside is the immersive story it tells along the way. There are no text prompts or cutscenes in Inside. The entire game’s story is told moment-to-moment in the foreground and background of Inside as the player moves through the world. It’s artful in a beautifully unique manner.
Surprisingly, there’s no news or announcement to be shared alongside the free release of Inside on the Epic Games Store. Previous games have either been released on the Epic Games Store for the first time or have a variety of DLC that can be acquired alongside the game. But Inside’s been available for some time now, has no DLC, and Playdead has yet to announce the next game that it’s working on. Playdead hasn’t even made a post about it on Twitter.
As with previous free games during the Epic Game Sale, Inside‘s availability won’t last forever. Each free game during the Epic Games Store Holiday Sale can be claimed for just 24 hours. That means that Inside‘s acquirable from now through Christmas morning at 8:00 AM PT. After that, Inside will go back to its previous retail price, which is likely still a great deal considering the game’s excellence.
Today is officially day 8 of the 15 Days of Free Games from the Epic Games Store. For those who may not be interested in Inside, there’s no need to worry. There are still 7 more days of free games to come between now and the start of the New Year. That should be more than enough for every PC gamer to find something they’ll like.
For those who aren’t interested in waiting to find out what’s next in the 15 Days of Free Games, there appears to have been an accurate leak. The leak has been accurate so far, which makes it quite reliable. According to the leak, tomorrow’s new game is Darkest Dungeon, followed by My Time in Portia, Night in the Woods, and more. Check out the Epic Games Store every day to find out for sure.
