Pokemon GO’s holiday event is officially underway and players have a ton of exciting bonuses to enjoy as they race around catching festive Pokemon and enjoying the last fews days of 2020 in the game. In addition to special spawns and some bonuses, there are also some exciting Battle Raid bosses making appearances, including the return of Regice.
Regice is a tier 5 boss in Pokemon GO, which means that players can face off against the tough foe with a group of friends in order to earn an encounter with the legendary ice-type. Regice isn’t always the most popular ice-type in the Pokemon GO metagame, but it is still a powerful Pokemon to have as an option and there are select Battle Raids where it is worth using.
In order to defeat and encounter Regice, players first need to prepare a strong counter roster that can take advantage of the ice-Types weaknesses. Regice has a number of weaknesses; including Fighting-, Rock-, Steel-, and Fire-moves. Players who want to have the strongest counter roster possible should focus on putting their best Fire-types to use though.
Charizard (Mega Y) – Fire Spin/Blast Burn
Reshiram – Fire Fang/Overheat
Metagross – Bullet Punch/Meteor Mash
Charizard (Mega X) – Fire Spin/Blast Burn
Volcarona – Fire Spin/Overheat
Moltres – Fire Spin/Overheat
Darmanitan (Zen) – Fire Fang/Overheat
Chandelure – Fire Spin/Overheat
Conkeldurr – Counter/Dynamic Punch
Houndoom (Mega) – Fire Fang/Flamethrower
Gengar (Mega) – Shadow Claw/Focus Blast
Kyurem (White) – Steel Wing/Focus Blast
Although Regice has been a Battle Raid boss multiple times in the past, the addition of Mega Pokemon and some other new evolutions definitely warrant revisiting any old, saved rosters and considering some updates. Players who have Mega resources to spare can definitely put Mega Charizard to use during this fight and see some major results.
Although Regice is considered one of the easier Legendary Battle Raid bosses to defeat, players should still head into the battle with the right counters and a group of other prepared trainers. For the average group of players with decent counters, it would be smart to stick with a group of at least five or six players to ensure that there are no failures or wasted Battle Raid Passes with each attempt.
As trainers continue working through these amazing events and enjoying the early days of the GO Beyond update, they may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters and completing their Pokedex is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
