Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can claim a bundle of items for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for a limited time. While the items are individually available in-game, the bundle makes it easier to assemble them quickly and gain an edge in Spirit Battles.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is one of the biggest reasons to have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. For one, the hugely popular fighting game includes ongoing themed tournaments, including a darkness-themed tourney to celebrate adding Sephiroth to the game as DLC. Plus, competing online lets Smash Bros players accrue GSP and possibly qualify for the Elite Smash matchmaking service. Finally, Nintendo will sometimes reward those subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online with item bundles like the one on offer right now.
By accessing the Nintendo Switch Online portal on the Nintendo Switch’s main home screen, players can obtain Spirit Board Challenge Pack 7. This gives users 3000 SP, along with a handful of useful items that let players rematch foes, drain enemy health, and more. This applies to the game’s Spirit Board mode, so this will have no impact on any multiplayer interactions. With special new Spirit Boards added all the time, there is no shortage of potential Spirits for players to defeat and recruit. With the new item bundle, doing so will be that much easier.
Spirits have a couple of uses within Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, as each provides some sort of benefit to the player equipping one. They can be used in local multiplayer, as well as online Battle Arenas with custom rulesets. This means Spirits cannot be used in ranked competitive play, but friends can still get together online and use them against each other. As each DLC pack receives its own Spirit Board, players will continually have special themed Spirits to recruit if they choose.
Perhaps the most valuable use of Spirits is within World of Light, the game’s story mode. Using the Spirit Board can give players the chance to quickly snag powerful Spirits they can then use to overpower story mode enemies. Powerful Spirits are especially helpful against the story mode’s biggest battles, such as the final fight against the all-powerful Galeem and Dharkon, which players must clear to unlock the story’s true ending.
This isn’t the only benefit Nintendo Switch Online members receive this month. Members now have access to the classic game Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble!, making the full trilogy of Donkey Kong Country games available on the Switch. While some have criticized Nintendo for not offering a full-fledged Virtual Console on the Switch, the company’s support for its NES and SNES libraries at least gives retro enthusiasts something to work with.
Super Smash. Bros Ultimate is now available for Nintendo Switch.
