xQc‘s popularity on Twitch is impressive, but even those only loosely familiar with the streamer may know him for some specific things. Namely, his aptitude for getting himself into controversies and his often trollish community. Those two things clashed in a recent xQc stream, in which the streamer accidentally pulled up his File Explorer and revealed a folder titled “Cheats.” Naturally, xQc’s chat wouldn’t let such a thing go without an explanation.
The situation unfolded in a typical xQc fashion. He went to press a button, apparently to try and mute himself, only to accidentally open up a folder on his PC’s Desktop. The folder was full of shortcuts to many of the games xQc plays, including Cyberpunk 2077, Grand Theft Auto 5, Phasmophobia, and other titles. Among a handful of random folders also on his desktop was one named Cheats, though he also has folders for Roms, States, and other assorted game-related necessities.
When xQc pulled up the folder, he yelled before closing it as fast as possible. It gave the entire situation an air of something having gone terribly wrong, though in retrospect it was probably just xQc being fearful of revealing something personal that could be used against him by one of his viewers. At the time, he came across looking very guilty.
Regardless of how it seems, xQc has a seemingly valid explanation for his Cheat folder. According to him, the Cheat folder is a requirement for a style of hacked randomized Pokemon game that he was playing. Since the game required files that actively altered the base Pokemon game, it was in effect cheating. It was just in a single-player game that could only be played through modding and cheat files, according to xQc.
To the streamer’s credit, the folder that was shown briefly on his stream was empty, as the icon that was shown featured an empty folder. Whatever the folder’s use, whether it was for a Pokemon randomizer or not, it doesn’t seem like xQc was actually using it.
In typical xQc chat fashion, his chat came off as his worst enemy following the incident. They continued to joke about xQc cheating in various ways for some time after the folder was revealed. Of course, nothing will likely come of it, as there’s nothing inherently wrong with having a folder named Cheats. However, given xQc‘s past bans, who can blame him for being wary about the situation.
