After eight long years, the Cyberpunk 2077 launch didn’t go quite as smoothly as most people expected. While the game sold like crazy, topping all sorts of sales charts and beating long held records, the end product was riddled with glitches, bugs, and features that felt rushed or unfinished. Things got so bad for the base version consoles that Sony delisted the game entirely from its online store while other online locations and retailers offered full refunds.
Even with multiple delays and a well documented bout of developer crunch towards the end of the year, fans have found plenty to both love and loath about the end game. While CD Projekt RED continues to work on hot fixes and updates for various issues, some content inside the game seems to hint that some features may have been cut or left to save time. Recently, fans have found a strange perk, which doesn’t appear to have much use.
Upon leveling up and earning attribute points, players can opt to spend them on various skill trees. One of the Stealth perks is called Commando and its level 1 description makes it so that players can’t be detected by enemies when in water. While it sounds impressive on paper, the major issue is that Night City doesn’t really have many areas to explore underwater, meaning that players who opt into this skill won’t really be able to take advantage of it at all.
Over on the Cyberpunk 2077 subReddit, BilboSwagginsDaGawd shared a meme at how useless the perk actually is. What makes the meme even more ironic is that many of the follow up comments to the post indicated that they had no idea it was even possible to go underwater. It’s entirely possible that CD Projekt RED intended to do more with water at some point during development, though due to time constraints, it likely had to be cut back or abandoned entirely.
It wouldn’t be the first time that content has been cut or left unfinished. Outside of the ability to wall run being removed from the game after it was shown off during a hands-off demo segment, players have been finding areas in the released game that seem to have had been left largely unfinished. Recently, a player explored the various train rails that sit lifeless above Night City, coming to a train station that had unlocked doors. Going inside the building revealed a structure that was missing lots of content including walls, stairs, and even a ceiling.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. It will release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2021.
