Creating a YouTube channel and building up a following is anything but easy. That difficulty rises when it comes to getting a million subscribers, especially over the course of a single year. That’s exactly what one YouTuber did, however. And he did so in an unusual way, by spending the last week stuck on an island and streaming it on YouTube.
YouTuber Airrack and his co-creator Mack had the goal of reaching 1,000,000 subscribers in a year. The YouTuber built up 800,000 by doing goofy pranks and antics, often involving other YouTube celebrities such as boxing Jake Paul, stealing Mr. Beast’s Island, and dropping a yacht into Logan Paul’s pool. While not exactly number one on YouTube, Airrack upped the ante leading up to the end of 2020.
Beginning on December 20, Airrack left the comforts of his home for a deserted island, much like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, at least temporarily. Airrack said that he would remain on the island until he reached his 1,000,000 subscriber mark, which he hit live on stream.
The video of him hitting that mark is pretty exciting, as he and his co-creator Mack watch on screen in tense fashion during a rainstorm. Airrack gets rather emotional leading up to that number’s reveal. While one million subscribers in a year perhaps is not as impressive as Corpse Husband gaining almost four million subscribers in just a few months, any version of gathering hundreds of thousands of subscribers or more in a short period of time is extremely impressive.
The YouTube video that is available on Airrack’s channel is less than 40 minutes long, as Airrack and Mack stare at the screen for minutes. The two simply waiting and hoping to hit that million mark is clearly excruciating. At some points, the two wonder if the screen/counter is frozen. But, when that mark finally jumps over the million mark (and it does so by over twenty thousand) Airrack and Mack are so excited that they jump around, pace back and forth, shed tears of joy, hug each other, and Mack even throws a chair. While not a top trending YouTube video of 2020, the clip is certainly entertaining.
This doesn’t seem to be the end for Airrack by any means. After thanking the fans and truly showing how grateful he was for this opportunity, he made it clear that this was just the beginning. He said that his next goal is to hit 10, then 20 million. The exciting feeling that he is getting for hitting one million is likely something he wants to feel over and over. YouTube has a way of making stars, it may have just found another.
