Genshin Impact divides the common elements from fantasy games into seven different categories. All playable characters in the game are able to manipulate one of these elements, with most drawing on the power of a Vision in order to do so. The Electro element is sometimes bemoaned for not having many uses, but despite this many of the characters with Electro Visions are actually very powerful. They may not be able to melt ice or freeze water like Pyro and Cryo characters can, but they still have the potential to serve as Primary DPS, Secondary DPS, or even support in some cases.
At the moment, there are five playable Electro characters, with a notable lack of any Polearm wielding ones. Of these five characters, only one is actually a 5-star character, but even many of the 4-star ones remain viable in team comps due to how good they are. There will more than likely be more added in future updates, but none of the characters shown in Genshin Impact‘s story preview were obviously Electro-oriented in any way, so at the moment players are still guessing at what’s to come for the Electro element.
Every Genshin Impact player should know who Lisa is, as she is one of the four characters that all players get for free during the game’s prologue. As the Librarian of the Knights of Favonius, Lisa is very knowledgeable in all things, a trait that she shows almost as much as her flirtatiousness with the Traveler. As a catalyst user, Lisa can apply the Electro status effect easily, making her great for setting up elemental reactions like Swirl or Overloaded. Her elemental skill also hits in a wide area and does heavy damage, and she is one of the best free characters that players can get in the game.
Bediou serves as the captain of the Crux Fleet in Liyue, and is one of the only people that doesn’t seem to be scared of the Tianquan of the Qixing, Ningguang. As a claymore wielder, she’s capable of dealing heavy damage in melee, and her elemental skill allows her to stay in the thick of things for longer. Beidou can charge can charge up damage with her elemental skill by absorbing hits from enemies to unleash a devastating blow, and to make matters even better, she also reduces stamina consumed when swimming.
Calling herself the Prinzessin Der Verurteilung (Princess of Condemnation), Fischl is a powerful Electro support character. Her use of an Electro bow is nothing to scoff at, but her true power comes from her elemental skill and companion. Fischl is able to summon Oz, a raven that deals Electro damage to enemies, and he will remain on the field even if the player switches characters. This means she can still be dealing damage even while a main DPS is out, and it makes it that much easier to create elemental reactions.
Razor was raised by a pack of wolves in Mondstadt’s region of Wolvendom, and as such much prefers to be out in the wild. His massive claymore and powerful electro abilities make him a one man show, and he’s one of the best options available as a 4-star Primary DPS character. The downside of Razor is that he doesn’t tend to play well with other characters, making it difficult to use him in a conducive team comp. That said, when supported by other powerful characters like Fischl or Zhongli, he can be devastating.
Despite being part of the Liyue Qixing, Keqing has her reservations about the Geo Archon, Rex Lapis. She believes that humans should decide their own fate for themselves rather than going along with whims of a god that descends only once a year. As a playable character, she excels as a Primary DPS, with her abilities allowing her to deal heavy damage to enemies in large areas. Her talents even help with exploration, as she is able to fire a ranged attack and then teleport to it, making climbing certain mountains or getting to hard to reach areas much easier.
At the moment, there are no confirmed upcoming Electro characters, though it is likely that fans will see an Electro Vision holder with a polearm weapon at some point. Ther are already two Electro Claymore characters and one of each other weapon type, but there are oddly no Polearm wielders. The weapon and element seem like they’d be made for each other, so it’s strange to see this, but perhaps a new character will be added once players venture into Inazuma, the domain of the Electro Archon, Baal.
Speaking of going to Inazuma, it seems very likely that the Traveler will unlock Electro abilities after interacting with a Statue of the Seven there. The traveler gained Anemo powers in Mondstadt and Geo skills in Liyue, so it stands to reason that this trend will continue. As far as how an Electro Traveler would work, it’s difficult to say at this point, but players should be able to find out in the next chapter after Genshin Impact‘s 1.3 update finally arrives. At the very least, he will probably use a sword just like Anemo and Geo traveler do and will have two different abilities for his Elemental skill and burst.
Players may harbor negative feelings towards the Electro element as a whole, but it’s clear that the characters with Electro Visions are all very powerful. Keqing is one of the best Primary DPS characters in the game, and Razor works great for free to play players lucky enough to get him. Fisch is almost unsurpassed as Support DPS (especially at constellation level 6), and even Lisa has her uses despite being a free character.
Genshin Impact is available now on Mobile, PC, and PS4, and later on Switch.
