Tom Cruise caused a bit of stir recently when audio leaked of the Hollywood star yelling at crew members for not following on-set safety protocols. Reports suggested that Cruise targeted the crew in question for standing too close to each other during filming, violating the set’s strict social distancing requirements. Despite that hiccup, the cast and crew are coming back from their holiday break with every intention of finishing Mission: Impossible 7.
Cameras will be starting up again within a few days, as the actor continues his long streak of death-defying stunts in the name of entertainment. This is despite the fact that vaccinations for COVID-19 have not yet reached all of the U.K. and cases continue to skyrocket. Some studios have continued to film during the pandemic, however, but maintaining a strict bubble where cast and crew are isolated from those not involved in filming.
If the leaked audio is anything to go by, Cruise is at least taking the threat seriously. During the incident, he made a point of reminding the crew that the distancing rules were crucial to keeping people safe and allowing them to keep working while much of the industry was unable to, and that it was important to keep the project from getting shut down.
As of the time of writing, there have been no reports of anyone in the Mission: Impossible 7 cast or crew contracting COVID-19, and principal photography is expected to be completed without further incident. While some have suggested that the leaked audio may have been a publicity stunt, People Magazine has reported via sources that Tom Cruise takes the restrictions very seriously, and feels a sense of attachment and protectiveness over the Mission: Impossible films that make him very careful not to risk production being shut down.
Whatever his motivations may be, it’s hard to argue that reverence for safety protocols is a bad thing. Hopefully, the cast and crew working on Mission: Impossible 7 can maintain their bubble and prevent any positive tests, while still producing the film up to the standards of the previous entries. While Tom Cruise is no stranger to dangerous shoots, it’s good to know that he is taking this particular threat as seriously as possible for the good of everyone.
Mission: Impossible 7 is set to release on November 19, 2021.
