Minecraft players everywhere are enjoying the latest big community event to hit the game’s servers, the Minecraft Community Celebration event. As part of the event, players across all Minecraft platforms will be offered free content including maps, character creator content, and accessory materials.
The Minecraft Community Celebration event first went live on December 8 and will last through 2020 all the way until January 13, 2021. The majority of the content available is made by well-known Minecraft creators such as PixelHeads, Noxcrew, Gamemode One, Mithey, and Jigarbov Productions. Millions of players will be taking advantage of the free content or simply watching Minecraft channels for laughs and amazement, as Minecraft is 2020’s most watched game on YouTube.
All the new content is separated by edition, whether it be the Bedrock Edition or the Java Edition of the game. Java players will have access to Noxcrew’s Terra Swoop map and Mithey’s Striding Hero map as well as a Striding Hero skin pack. They will also have the opportunity to experience a free week of Minecraft Realms, an official server hosting service that allows players to host their own Minecraft servers.
As for Bedrock Edition players, there are some extra goods to get their hands on. The updated Simburbia map by Jigarbov Productions is available for free as well as character creator items to turn characters into walking construction zones. Alternatively, players can masquerade around as chickens in the Farm Life map by PixelHeads. As of yesterday, the Terra Swoop map and character creator items associated with it are also available for free for Bedrock Edition owners. However, due to performance issues, the Terra Swoop map is not available for Nintendo Switch owners but rather another map by Noxcrew, Grid Runners, is available for free download. But the celebration isn’t over and free content seems to be released daily until next year, which means there will be more incredible Minecraft map designs and character skins to come.
Why is Mojang Studios giving away so much free stuff? The company wants to give back to the community for “[making] such awesome stuff, we couldn’t help but share it.” It’s no secret that Minecraft is one of the most versatile creation games in history, reaching a staggering 600 million active players last month. After a tough year, the Minecraft Community Celebration event looks to reward a thriving playerbase with a variety of fun content created by people who have poured endless hours into the game.
Any of the free content available as part of Minecraft Community Celebration event can be dowloaded from the Minecraft Marketplace at any time during the event. Claimed character creator items can be found in a player’s profile to be used as desired. Of course, anybody looking to enjoy the free content must already own Minecraft in some form, but with several incredible versions including original Minecraft, Minecraft Dungeons, Minecraft Earth, and Minecraft: Education Edition, there is a plethora of choice for new players looking to create.
Minecraft is available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
