PlatinumGames Gives Bayonetta 3 Development Update | Game Rant

It’s been over three years since Nintendo first revealed Bayonetta 3 at The Game Awards 2017. Since then, updates on Bayonetta 3 have been few and far between, with fans only able to speculate based on the initial teaser trailer. Unfortunately, there is still isn’t any big news on Bayonetta 3 or what the highly-anticipated Nintendo Switch exclusive game will entail, but PlatinumGames’ Hideki Kamiya has given fans another update on its progress.

In a recent interview with Famitsu, Hideki Kamiya confirmed that Bayonetta 3 is still in development and that development on the game “is going very well.” Kamiya noted that fans are concerned about the game due to the lack of updates, but he reassured them by promising that “verifications of new systems have been going great.” While some have mistakenly taken this to mean that Bayonetta 3 is in development for platforms other than the Nintendo Switch, it is more likely a reference to new gameplay mechanics that will be featured in the game.

Bayonetta 3 has largely been shrouded in mystery since its initial teaser trailer, which showed very little. The Bayonetta 3 teaser trailer featured a moon turning blood red, a ghostly figure of some kind, and the titular Bayonetta firing her signature pistols. Notably, she seemed to have a look more similar to how she appeared in the first Bayonetta game as opposed to the sequel. But besides those minute details, fans can only guess as to what Bayonetta 3 has in store for them.

Fans can also only guess as to Bayonetta 3‘s release date as well. There used to be rumors pointing to Bayonetta 3‘s release date being sometime in 2018, and then fans expected it to launch in 2019. After PlatinumGames teased big announcements for 2020, fans were hoping that the Bayonetta 3 release date would be sometime this year. Unfortunately, 2020 is nearly over with no sign of Bayonetta 3, but if development is going as smoothly as Kamiya claims, maybe fans can expect release date information in 2021.

While Bayonetta 3 still has yet to see the light of day, Nintendo Switch owners have had the chance to revisit the franchise. Bayonetta is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and beyond that, the first two Bayonetta games have been ported to the Switch.

With Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 being mere ports on the Switch, though, there still hasn’t been a game in the series that properly takes advantage of the console’s unique capabilities. Bayonetta 3 on Switch could do some cool things, and it will definitely be interesting to see what PlatinumGames comes up with whenever the long-awaited game hits store shelves.

Bayonetta 3 is in development exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
