Industry Insider Suggests Ubisoft Plus Xbox Game Pass Rumors Are True

Over the past year, Microsoft has continued to bolster the offering of its premium Xbox service: Xbox Game Pass. While the subscription itself is considered by many to be the best deal in gaming, it seems that Xbox has been determined to make that a matter of fact rather than opinion by giving players a strong lineup of games such as the Yakuza series as well as Remedy’s celebrated 2019 game, Control. However, it seems like players could be see a bigger value add in the future according to one industry insider.

A recent rumor began circulating that Ubisoft Plus, Ubisoft’s Game Pass Equivalent, would soon be added as a benefit of having an Xbox Game Pass subscription. When these rumors originally began making the rounds, there seemed to be nothing to substantiate the idea, however, Windows Central’s Jez Corden took to Twitter stating he believed this to be true. Corden’s belief stems from things he’s heard, but seems unsure to what extent Ubisoft Plus will be available to Game Pass subscribers.

This wouldn’t be the first time Xbox has found a way to integrate other developers’ service into its own. Game Pass Ultimate subscribers saw a huge influx of new titles to play in November as EA Play was brought into the Xbox ecosystem at no additional cost. Some notable games that subscribers have access now thanks to this partnership includes Star Wars Jedi: Fallen OrderTitanfall 2, and Dragon Age: Inquisition.

It will be certainly interesting to see if this rumor turns out to be true as it could be a look into Ubisoft’s business model going forward. Recently, Amazon announced its new product, Amazon Luna, as a seeming competitor to Google Stadia. In addition to the overall Luna library available to subscribers, players will have the option to pay additional “channel” subscriptions to gain access to more titles. In the initial announcement, Amazon announced that Ubisoft would be the first channel that would be integrated into the service, seemingly showing that Ubisoft could be changing its overall business plan to focus on subscriptions and streaming.

It seemed like every day in 2020, Xbox is making a new announcement that increases the value of Game Pass, and 2021 is shaping up to be another major year for the service. Microsoft has announced that Game Pass subscribers can expect xCloud to be available on iOS and PC in spring of 2021, allowing players to stream games wherever they like. And if this Ubisoft Plus rumor proves true, that could mean players will be able to play massive games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla from their phone without a download.
