Facepunch Studios’ multiplayer survival game Rust has been thrust back into the limelight after OfflineTV created a 50-player lobby full of well-known streamers. However, with 50 streamers all interacting, controversy was bound to be stirred up. The lobby was created on December 26, and after nearly a week tensions boiled over, leading to the announcement that OfflineTV will be creating a new server with less players that is more focused on roleplay. Now, Twitch streamer Shroud has revealed that the new server will have a few special features.
Shroud said OfflineTV is working with Rust developer Facepunch Studios to add special features for the upcoming Rust server. “I don’t really want to spoil any of the new elements they will have, but they’re working very closely with Facepunch,” he said. Shroud seems intent on not giving away any of the special features, but hints at what the features could entail. Shroud adds, “It’s not gonna be all RP. As much as people might think it will be, it’s not.”
In the middle of the OfflineTV server controversy is none other than Canadian Twitch streamer xQc. The streamer’s playstyle has always been aggressive, so he was bound to butt heads in the Rust server. While many of the other streamers wanted to enjoy role playing and learn the game, xQc decided that his team would dominate the server by going on raids, shooting anyone in sight, and talking trash. His base raids may have annoyed other streamers, but some of his other actions seemingly took it too far.
On numerous occasions, xQc has accused other streamers of stream sniping, and a verbal altercation with Twitch streamer Ash led to her receiving death threats from xQc fans. YouTube streamer Valkyrae, creator of the lobby, even threatened to shut down the OfflineTV server due to all of the issues. All this was enough for OfflineTV to create the new server, which will launch on January 7.
It seems Shroud accurately predicted the implosion of the first Rust server at the beginning. During the first couple days of the server, Shroud mentioned that xQc will be the reason the server implodes because he would try to kill and raid everyone, and that is exactly what happened.
While xQc has added some excitement to the first server with non-stop action and skillful play, has also caused some harm, especially through the altercation with Ash. Many of the streamers that enjoy the PvP elements may stick to the first server, but with Facepunch working on special features for the second server, streamers may join the new one for these new aspects.
Rust is available now on PC.
