10 Games To Play If You Love Immortals Fenyx Rising | Game Rant

Developed by Ubisoft Quebec, the idea behind Immortals Fenyx Rising was birthed when an issue occurred during the development of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey that caused the human characters to turn into cyclopses. The success of 2018’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey made Ubisoft confident enough to give the project a thumbs-up, and thus Immortals Fenyx Rising, originally titled Gods and Monsters, began development.

The game was released in December 2020 to a lukewarm reception, scoring between 76 and 82 on the review aggregator Metacritic. Despite the somewhat disappointing scores, Immortals Fenyx Rising has received a great deal of attention and praise in recent weeks. For those that have thoroughly enjoyed the game, or liked the concept but wanted more in terms of the execution, here are 10 excellent games that have significant similarities to Ubisoft’s recent open-world adventure.

10 Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition

Originally released in 2010 on the Nintendo Wii, Xenoblade Chronicles is an open-world RPG that was developed by Monolith Soft and published by Nintendo. The game was beloved by both fans and critics, exemplified by its 92 Metascore and 9.2 User Score.

The game differentiates itself from Immortals Fenyx Rising with its JRPG elements, such as the action-based battle system, but there is still much to love for fans of Ubisoft’s game. A remastered edition of the 2010 titled Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, released in 2019 and featured improvements to the game’s music, interface, and visuals.

9 Shadow of the Tomb Raider

The rebooted Tomb Raider series has carved itself a spot in the crowded world of modern third-person action-adventures. Although the games have struggled to find themselves among their respective years’ most critically acclaimed titles, they’ve each offered solid, enjoyable adventures akin to the Assassin’s Creed series.

Eidos-Montréal’s game may not have won any game of the year awards, despite being nominated for a handful in the adventure category; though it did win multiple awards for its sound design. The 2019 G.A.N.G. Awards and National Academy of Video Game Trade Reviewers Awards both awarded the Lara Croft adventure for its use of sound.

8 The Pathless

Released in November 2020 by Annapurna Interactive, The Pathless puts players in the shoes of a skilled hunter who is accompanied by an eagle that has the strength to carry her around the game’s open-world. The Pathless is notable for replacing the commonly found mini-map with a Spirit Vision mechanic, which greatly improves the player’s sense of immersion.

The Pathless is only the second game developed by Giant Squid. Giant Squid’s first game was Abzû, an artistic adventure game that lets players explore a meticulously designed ocean.

7 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Any list of recommendations for an open-world adventure game would feel incomplete without the inclusion of Bethesda’s modern classic The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

The latest Elder Scrolls title set a standard for RPGs in 2011 with its incredible open-world that was filled to the brim with quests to complete and secrets to discover. Despite the game releasing two console generations ago, it still feels fresh today and will likely continue to do so until The Elder Scroll VI is finally released.

6 Horizon Zero Dawn

Much like Immortals Fenyx RisingHorizon Zero Dawn has been frequently compared to (spoiler alert) The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Similar to the aforementioned The Pathless, Horizon Zero Dawn puts players in control of a skilled archer and hunter. The game’s excellent open-world is set in a unique post-apocalyptic setting where the land is overrun by animal-like robots. Horizon Zero Dawn was a big hit with fans and critics, scoring an impressive 89 on Metacritic.

5 Dark Souls

Like Skyrim, FromSoftware’s Dark Souls doesn’t have too many direct similarities to Ubisoft’s Immortal Fenyx Rising, but it is a must-have for players looking to find some of the action-adventure genre’s best modern games.

Dark Souls is known for its punishing difficulty and lack of hand-holding, though these are far from just being gimmicks. The game’s absence of help and direction is beautifully representative of the intricate story that invites the player to explore it without ever making it essential.

4 Genshin Impact

A free-to-play action-RPG released by Chinese company miHoYo, Genshin Impact lets players explore a wonderfully designed open-world on all major platforms including mobile devices.

The game has already won numerous awards since its September 2020 release, including Google Play’s Game of the Year and iPhone Game of the Year, as well as receiving nominations at The Game Awards 2020 for both Best RPG and Best Mobile Game.

3 God of War (2018)

It could be argued that God of War (2018) is the least like Immortal Fenyx Rising in the sense that it changes its influence from Greek Mythology to Norse Mythology for the first time in the series. However, the latest God of War game earns its spot on this list for its more open level design that was a breath of fresh air for the series.

Although God of War can’t exactly be categorized as an open-world, it should still appeal to fans of Immortals Fenyx Rising for its fantastic world-design, despite the more linear approach.

2 Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

As mentioned before, Ubisoft Quebec formulated the concept behind Immortals Fenyx Rising when working on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, so it should come as little surprise that the games have numerous similarities.

The main similarity between the two games is that they both center around Greek mythology. The mythology’s influence doesn’t just affect the game’s story but is seen around every corner of the fantastic open-world that Ubisoft Quebec created. The developer was deservedly recognized for their efforts with the world design, winning the Best Artistic Design accolade at the Titanium Awards.

1 The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Anyone who has done even surface-level research of Immortals Fenyx Rising will probably have seen comparisons between it and Nintendo’s most recent main series Zelda titleThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Similarities include physics-based puzzles, climbable surfaces, and an explorable world that is bursting with color that can be explored on foot, by gliding, or on horseback. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is now the second-highest-rated Zelda game of all time on Metacritic, with a score of 97 that puts it just two points behind the iconic Ocarina of TimeThe game’s score is especially impressive when factoring in that it was reviewed by over eighty more outlets than The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
