But it’s probably The Elder Scrolls Online, who knows.
Games giant Bethesda is teasing something The Elder Scrolls-related.
In a post on the series’ Twitter account on December 31, the company tweeted a picture of a map along with the caption “Transcribe the past and map the future.” This could, of course, just be a message wishing its fans a Happy New Year, but there’s also fan speculation about what it could mean.
As spotted by Rock Paper Shotgun, the map in question is of the region of Skyrim and features three lights. One is by “Province of Skyrim” caption for the map – also in the unmapped area of Hammerfell – while another is by the location of Solitude, the capital of Skyrim. The final light is by a pile of coins, which were apparently featured in a collectors edition of 2020’s Greymoor expansion for… The Elder Scrolls Online.
Honestly, who knows. There are probably bigger things to be worrying about right now like a certain global pandemic, the fact we’re literally cooking the planet, or the absurd and ever-increasing gap between the rich and poor.
Anyways.
Perhaps this isn’t the teaser for The Elder Scrolls 6 that many had hoped. That title was announced back at E3 2018 but Bethesda has said that it’s going to be some time before we hear much about this brand new project.
The firm’s boss Todd Howard has said that it has made some huge technical leaps in its Creation Engine for The Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield.
Meanwhile, Bethesda has been teasing the next chapter of its Elder Scrolls Online MMO, which seems to be set in Oblivion.
Microsoft announced in September 2020 that it was going to buy Bethesda for $7.5 billion.
