Another day, another video game glitch discovery. A Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War player has recently found that using a specific weapon gives them the ability to fly.
Developer Treyarch’s sixth entry in its Black Ops series launched on November 13. The game has been met with mixed reception, with some players praising its innovative campaign and others criticizing online gameplay issues. The cross-generational title has been plagued with frequent bugs since launch, so severely that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘s Season 1 and Warzone integration was pushed back several weeks from its original date. Post-integration, there are still a litany of broken glitches that need to be fixed between the titles.
Reddit user E3zyy posted to the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War thread documenting the bizarre glitch. The short clip shows the player consecutively throwing two Semtex grenades over a house on the Nuketown map. A moment after chucking the second one, E3zyy essentially becomes a third Semtex themselves, flying in a similar path to the sticky explosives. After a few seconds of their best Iron Man impression, the player is killed just before landing. Judging by the gamer’s reaction at the end of the video, it appears the maneuver was anything but intentional.
While this could develop into a new method of rocket-jumping – a popular tactic of firing a rocket into the ground as a means of propulsion – most gamers would consider it much more difficult. The buggy nature of the clip suggests that it may be just another bug Treyarch needs to work out. Despite bugs and glitches appearing to be rampant throughout the title, some of the bugs that players are discovering aren’t necessarily bad. For instance, one player has just discovered an exploit that instantly unlocks diamond camo, rather than the usual grind-heavy requirement of getting five gold skins in a single weapon class first.
This isn’t the only glitch being documented in Nuketown, however. Another Reddit user recently posted a video to the same thread which showed Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘s magnums appearing to have major hit detection issues.
While Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is the latest entry in the franchise, many gamers were upset with the “forced” integration of Warzone and Modern Warfare. There is a sizable amount of CoD players who have spoken up with concerns that the streamlining has pushed the Infinity Ward-produced Modern Warfare to the back burner. It should then come as good news that publisher Activision has not only promised additional content, but has confirmed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare to be the highest-earning premium game of 2020. While this may not guarantee the title’s continued support, its a prime example at just how lucrative Call of Duty can be.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
