Bungie Confirms Destiny 2 Dragonfly Perk Removal from Cold Front in Future Update

Destiny 2 is well into the Season of the Hunt as players progress through the seasonal activities. After Beyond Light‘s launch, fans got reacquainted with an old enemy and started their Wrathborn Hunts as part of the seasonal content. Then, the game saw the return of The Dawning, Bungie’s annual winter event, which brought new gear and rewards, as well as refurbishing older ones. A weapon that was brought forward was the Cold Front submachine gun, which will be tweaked soon due to a problematic perk.

Cold Front is a 720 RPM submachine gun that was an exclusive loot drop from Dawning gifts. Players could farm for different rolls of the weapon, and other Dawning-exclusive weapons, by partaking in the festivities, namely the gift giving pursuits. Unlike last year, fans of Destiny 2 were surprised to find Cold Fronts with the Dragonfly perk attached every now and then, which is supposed to allow the weapon to create explosions on kills.

This is confusing because Cold Front is a kinetic weapon, while Dragonfly normally only rolls on energy weapons since it takes advantage of the weapon’s specified element (Solar, Arc, Void). Fans were initially disappointed at this mistake on Bungie’s part, thinking that it essentially gave the weapon a dead trait. However, the perk does function to an extent.

Dragonfly Cold Fronts do in fact successfully create explosions on kills. The blasts are in Solar damage, and have less effectiveness compared to proper guns with Dragonfly. Even so, coupled with the huge novelty factor, some fans insisted that Bungie shouldn’t touch Dragonfly Cold Fronts because it is a collector’s item if anything.

Recently, Joe Blackburn jumped on Twitter to address the issue of Dragonfly Cold Fronts. Despite what players may or may not be experiencing, Cold Fronts with Dragonfly were actually creating some technical errors on Bungie’s end. This is due to the perk never being tooled to work with kinetic weaponry. To amend this, Bungie will be replacing the Dragonfly perk with Swashbuckler on all Cold Fronts that players own.

Swashbuckler is a good perk, especially on submachine guns, as it can gain increased damage from melee and weapon kills. So, even though the gun will lose its oddity, players will still have a decent weapon to use for the next year. However, Blackburn also dropped some uplifting news, heavily implying that Firefly, Dragonfly’s predecessor, will return on fan-favorite gun Fatebringer when Vault of Glass launches later in the year. Firefly is a very potent and iconic perk, thus veteran players will be happy to revisit VoG to take a look at what D2‘s Fatebringer feels like.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
