One lucky player can start off 2021 right, because a solid gold PlayStation 5 is now available. A single “Golden Rock” version of Sony’s popular next-generation console is on sale via the luxury accessory website, Caviar.
As Sony’s biggest console launch, the PS5 is a difficult product to snag. With scalpers dominating the resale market currently, players looking for another option can now check out Golden Rock.
The console is made up from about 20 kilograms of 18 karat gold, spread out across 8 separate sheets. Unlike the smooth, customizable PlayStation 5 console plating, Golden Rock offers a unique design. The creators found inspiration from actual gold ore, and utilized that style to design the sides of the luxury device. Caviar touts how the special materials for their PlayStation 5 add extra volume and texture as well.
In case anyone is worrying, the gold PS5 also features a matching gamepad. The PS5 controller has seen great press due to innovative characteristics, so the Golden Rock would be remiss without it. Made of genuine crocodile leather, this device also features golden inserts where the pad would normally be. Though the price is on a request only basis, there is only one model for sale, so potential buyers will need to act fast.
Specialty editions of gaming consoles and devices are always an exciting prospect for fans. Whether promoting a new game or just offering a cool design, these models typically sell out fast and end up as collector items. The Golden Rock will surely be no different, as only a single one is available. Though, much like KFC’s dive into the console market, many players may wonder what the point of Golden Rock is. This is likely a case of, if one needs to know the price then they are not wealthy enough to afford it. And with only one being sold, the chances of actually grabbing this console are next to none. Such a frivolous use of gold may have some scratching their heads, as it could probably be better utilized elsewhere. However, if owning a solid gold PlayStation 5 is on one’s bucket list, now is the chance to scratch it off.
