There is nothing like the current fanbase of the long-standing fighting game series, Mortal Kombat. Since the release of its latest numbered title, Mortal Kombat 11, the game’s players continue to be active in the fandom. And one such active fan was inspired to create a mod that shifts the game’s perspective from its typical horizontal scroll into an all-new, first-person view.
In the almost 30 years of its existence, the Mortal Kombat series has had over 20 game titles, both in the fighting and non-fighting game genres. Even with seemingly basic gameplay, Mortal Kombat introduced many Kombatants that fans have learned to love and play as. So it is not unexpected for players to wonder what it would be like to see the Mortal Kombat stages from the perspectives of their favorite characters.
With Mortal Kombat fan Ermaccer’s recent mod project, players will now be able to play Mortal Kombat 11 in the first-person perspective. This means, when applied to their game, fans can start beating down on other characters while in the shoes of their favorite Mortal Kombat fighter. Being Sub-Zero, Scorpion, or whoever they choose, the mod allows players to attack, dodge or do their special moves, all while in face-to-face combat with their foe. This also means that fans will experience the game’s iconic Fatalities up close and personal.
Ermaccer also shared a better view of how the Mortal Kombat 11 mod will look through a video on his YouTube channel. At around the 43-second mark, the video switches to the first-person perspective, with the player using Scorpion as they face Noob Saibot. To demonstrate how the camera and some cutscenes will look, Ermaccer executes Scorpion’s iconic “Get Over Here” spear move that draws Noob Saibot in towards him. The scene also showcases how special effects like blood splatters will look in first-person.
The mod also allows a unique third-person point-of-view to be implemented in Mortal Kombat 11. Ermaccer demonstrates this at the beginning of the video, using Spawn to fight against Sheeva, two of the game’s DLC characters. While this mod is a very fresh and more difficult way of playing through the game, players should be cautious in using it during online matches. Doing so may lead to player accounts being banned as it will have an effect on gameplay and player performance.
The NetherRealm Studios team is working hard to prove that Mortal Kombat 11 is not the end of the series. With fans still finding Easter eggs left and right, and rumors of an incoming 3rd Kombat Pack, fans still have much to look forward to from the fighting game.
Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
