Halo Infinite Developer Departs for Gunfire Games | Game Rant

Kolbe Payne is a game developer that has been working on Halo Infinite the last couple of years as a campaign level and gameplay designer. Now Payne is moving on from 343 Industries, having accepted a position at Gunfire Games as a junior level designer, working on an undisclosed project.

It’s not clear exactly what game Payne will be working on at Gunfire Games. The studio has consistently put out at least one new game every year since 2015, with Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition in 2015 followed by the virtual reality game Chronos in 2016. From Other Suns launched in 2017, and then there was Darksiders 3 in 2018, Remnant: From the Ashes in 2019, and a reworked version of Chronos in 2020 called Chronos: Before the Ashes. The studio has a history of releasing new games in established franchises while also experimenting with new IP, so the studio’s next project is really anyone’s guess.

Gunfire Games is most closely associated with the Darksiders and Remnant games, so maybe the company’s next project is Darksiders 4. Then again, it could be releasing a follow-up to Remnant instead, especially since that game earned stronger reviews than Darksiders 3. Whatever the case may be, fans will just have to standby for more information. If Gunfire Games sticks to its yearly release schedule, then fans may learn more sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, some fans may wonder what Payne’s departure from 343 Industries potentially means for Halo InfiniteVarious Halo Infinite developers have left the game during the course of its development, but that is not necessarily an indication that there are issues behind the scenes. After all, Halo Infinite was originally going to launch this past fall, and so it seems likely that the bulk of the game’s development has already been completed.

Halo Infinite was delayed to fall 2021 so 343 could better polish the game and ensure that it was an experience that lived up to fan expectations. It’s possible some more dramatic changes are being made as well, though much of it is being kept secret. The Halo Infinite delay came about after the game’s campaign reveal trailer was widely mocked online by people who were unimpressed with the graphics and general gameplay was on display, so here’s hoping that fans are more impressed the next time they get to see the game.

As it stands, the new Halo Infinite release date is pegged for a vague fall 2021 window, so fans will get their hands on the game at some point later this year.
