Before moving on to direct the Demon’s Souls remake, SIE Worldwide Studios’ Gavin Moore pioneered the now cult classic title Puppeteer for the PS3. However, while responding to some fans familiar with the eight-year old game, Moore has let it be known how he would like to approach his older classic, in a different direction than the remake of the PS3’s Demon’s Souls.
This acknowledgement of Puppeteer came after a fan responded to Moore’s New Year wishes on Twitter, who asked to see the PS3 classic get either a remaster, if not the full Bluepoint remake treatment. In response, Moore stated that he wouldn’t want to work on a remaster at this point, but would rather push for new stories within an expanded Puppeteer series.
Instead of remaking or remastering Puppeteer, Moore is more interested now in developing a sequel in order to tell new stories with what started in 2013. Granted, it wouldn’t be unheard of for the sequel for even popular games from the time to have skipped over an entire generation of consoles, such as the upcoming Elder Scrolls 6. So, this could mean that Moore’s intention to see a Puppeteer 2 might not be too out of the question, especially after the director’s recent success with the Demon’s Souls remake.
Given the general reception of the game, with an 80% on Metacritic and an 8.4 from users, the issues with Puppeteer may not have been a lack of compelling gameplay or art styles. It may have come down to marketing more than anything else that kept players from jumping onto the game. However, with many PS3 games disappearing from digital shelves, a remaster or sequel might be necessary for new players to ever get access to Puppeteer.
