Ghost Recon Breakpoint Crossing Over With Rainbow Six Siege in Operation Amber Sky

Last year, the online tactical shooter Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint introduced AI teammates through its second live event called “Resistance,” which affected the in-game world of Auroa by shifting the balance of power between different factions. Ubisoft is now preparing to launch the game’s third live event, “Operation Amber Sky,” which will bring with it a crossover between Ghost Recon: Breakpoint and the team-based FPS Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege.

The event begins on January 21, 2021, and will center around mysterious clouds of gas appearing all across Auroa, as seen in a cinematic trailer released by Ubisoft today. This toxic nerve gas is called Amber Ruin, according to an event breakdown, and the Ghost Recon: Breakpoint team will have to partner with Rainbow Six operators Ash, Finka, and Thatcher to stop it from being sold overseas while also finding a cure.

While fans of the expansive Tom Clancy game universe may simply appreciate the opportunity to see these characters play off one another, Ubisoft also promises 11 exclusive items will be available throughout the event period – including uniforms and an Underbarrel Shotgun attachment. There will also be Rainbow Six-themed items in the game’s store, alongside returning items from the “Resistance” live event and its predecessor, a crossover between Ghost Recon: Breakpoint and The Terminator.

This upcoming “Operation Amber Sky” event will last for ten days, according to a Tweet posted by the official Ghost Recon: Breakpoint account, but those who are interested will be able to try it out toward the beginning because of a free-to-play weekend from January 21 to 25, as advertised on the r/GhostRecon subreddit. It comes shortly after new Ghost Recon: Breakpoint DLC introduced Golem Island, giving fans more to try out during their free trial period.

Those who enjoy Rainbow Six Siege should be particularly interested in this crossover event, as despite the team-based shooter receiving continual updates it is currently unclear when the next entry in the series will release. Rainbow Six Quarantine and Far Cry 6 were delayed last October, and are not set to come out until sometime during the next fiscal year that begins in April 2021.

Ubisoft has announced numerous other delays since Rainbow Six Quarantine and Far Cry 6. The extreme sports MMO Riders Republic was delayed today, and will be releasing sometime later this year rather than its initial February launch window. Luckily, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint fans can look forward to this Rainbow Six Siege crossover event in the meantime.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
