Macaulay Culkin Supports Removing Donald Trump from Home Alone 2

In the wake of the riots at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, calls continue to come out for more and more companies to cut ties with President Donald Trump. After several social media sites, including Twitter and Facebook suspended the President’s accounts, other companies and businesses have either taken initiative or faced calls to cut ties with Trump’s brand and existing deals, including some of his more innocuous appearances in old media, such as his cameo in Home Alone 2.

On January 6th, a group of Trump-supporting protesters stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to prevent the certification of President-Elect Joe Biden. As a result, the representatives inside, consisting of the Senate, House of Representatives, and Vice President Mike Pence, were forced into lockdown while police and federal officers attempted to get the situation under control.

During the riot, the President made several statements that were interpreted by many as supportive of the group, and led to Twitter suspending his account for incitement of violence. In the aftermath of the incident, other companies followed suit, suspending Trump’s accounts and cutting ties with the President, and he has recently been impeached for a second time under the charge of high crimes and misdemeanors.

This all, of course, has been quite the hot topic online, as various institutions and individuals call for the President’s removal from various businesses and pieces of media. One such example is Home Alone 2. In the sequel to the classic Christmas film, the protagonist ends up lost in New York City, and winds up in the Plaza Hotel, which was owned by Donald Trump, and as such he makes a small cameo in the film.

It’s a small role consisting of one scene where Kevin McCallister, played by a young Macaulay Culkin, asks a man for directions, and it turns out to be Donald Trump himself, who was best known as a minor celebrity and real estate businessman at the time. So when one user suggested digitally replacing him with an adult Macaulay Culkin, the man himself responded with a simple response: “Sold.”

Of course, such a change is unlikely to happen in anything other than a fan edit, as the film itself is far too old to be worth going back and altering. That said, there have been some versions of the film that remove the scene with Donald Trump, though this is mostly done to trim the film for TV showings, and was a typical cut from long before his presidency.
