Destiny 2: 10 Must Try DPS Tips To Maximize Damage | Game Rant

Guardians in Destiny 2 with a knack for building high-damage builds perform best as DPS-oriented Hunters. In Bungie‘s hit game, DPS roles come in the form of various Hunter builds, each with its own special take on taking down enemies. Essentially, some Hunter subclasses prefer stalking enemies from others. Meanwhile, other Hunter types love mowing down enemies as soon as they ping their radar.

However, despite differences in playstyles, Hunters in Destiny 2 often follow some essential “approaches” to ensure an optimal damage output in firefights. In turn, Hunter players usually have some basic protocols to help them perform at their best, especially in the Crucible. Interestingly, just how should Hunters maximize damage in Destiny 2?

10 Secure The Stats First

Hunters should have their best stats prepared before they head to battle. That way, Hunters can worry less about their durability and focus on securing the kills. Essentially, it’s never wrong to have high Recovery to get back to battle quickly. Likewise, Hunters should always maximize Mobility to Dodge as often as possible and evade enemy fire.

Interestingly, Hunters can capitalize on other statistics depending on their particular build. For instance, the melee-oriented Way of the Warrior (Arcstrider) need more Strength to get more buck out of their punches. Meanwhile, the grenade-loving Way of the Pathfinder (Nighstalker) need higher Discipline to use Grenades more often.

9 Always Maintain Distance

Hunters should always prioritize distance, regardless if they’re using sniper rifles or not. An enemy a few seconds away can still give enough time for Hunters to choose a course of action. Moreover, their Jumps and Dodges encourage Hunters to always keep moving. Additionally, Hunters can maximize their mobility and distance the more they have intimate knowledge over the map.

In turn, Hunters should take time studying maps at all times and change approaches when fighting in tight or wide spaces. For instance, Hunters can optimize their Strafe Jumps to cover huge distances much faster. Meanwhile, Dodges can help Hunters get out of tight spaces, especially when cornered. Knowing when to evade and which movement ability to use allows Hunters to aim and shoot more efficiently.

8 Horizontality Over Verticality

As with other DPS classes in MMOs, Destiny 2‘s Hunters reign supreme in terms of mobility. Thanks to Jumps and Dodges, Hunters always have a way of engaging and disengaging in battle. However, Hunters should prioritize their horizontality over their verticality. Essentially, Hunters should prioritize Jumps and Dodges that let them traverse across the battlefield quicker and hit enemies faster, instead of getting to higher spaces.

In this regard, Hunters benefit the best from Strafe Jump. Unlike the verticality of High Jump and the sustain of Triple Jump, Strafe Jump gives players ample directional control to navigate the battlefield faster. Essentially, Strafe Jump enables Hunters to move and shoot more efficiently compared to their Hunter counterparts.

7 Develop A Play With Weapons

Unlike other MMOs, Destiny 2 ties weapons and armor to certain damage types. In turn, Hunters maximize DPS by ensuring they tie in their statistics, Perks and Mods with their weapons of choice. While there’s quite a lot of Perks and Mods that boost damage and traits of certain weapon types, Hunters should capitalize on those that their play relies on.

For instance, close-to-mid-range users who love scout rifles should always have Perks that capitalize on better damage and higher reload, allowing Hunters to hit much faster – something needed in close range. Meanwhile, snipers should rely on Perks geared towards lesser recoil and weapon stability to ensure they land their shots.

6 Develop Synergies With Party Members

While Hunters have the perfect capability of handling solo incursions, Hunters in sync with the rest of their team can capitalize heavily on their damage potential. For instance, Hunters with active cooldowns can stick close to Warlocks to increase their damage output, allowing them to take down enemies as soon as their Titans engage them.

Meanwhile, Hunters can also offer the assist for Titans and Warlocks cornered by other enemies by zooming in for the kill. The high mobility potential of Hunters make them perfect for hit-and-run tactics – excellent for parties to build ambush strategies and pressure opponents enough into submission.

5 Trust In Grenades

Aside from Perks and Mods, Hunters should rely on Grenades in order to get the necessary supplementing damage needed to secure their DPS. Moreover, Hunters can use certain Grenades in order to capitalize their potential to disrupt, distract, or even outright kill opponents. For instance, Tripmine Grenade (Gunslinger) becomes a handy tool to set up traps and prepare for encounters. However, seeking drones from Skip Grenades (Arcstrider) and Swarm Grenades (Gunslinger) can easily distract opponents for Hunters to zoom in for the kill.

Likewise, the damage-over-time of Flux Grenades (Arcstrider), when attached to enemies, make them work best for head-on collisions with tanks such as Titans and other DPS like Hunters. Likewise, the AOE of Arcbolt Grenades (Arcstrider) also works best when surrounded by multiple threats.

4 Weaker Enemies Receive More DPS

Hunters who know how to move right maximize their damage opportunities. However, Hunters who weaken their opponents can land more damage with their go-to weapons, courtesy of specific debuffs. For instance, Nighstalker’s ever-reliant Shadowshot Super hooks enemies on Void Anchors for various effects – easy tracking, trap enemies or increase damage. Likewise, the Nighstalker’s Shattering Strike boosts melee damage after performing a Flawless Execution.

Interestingly, players should also take note of particular weapons to land debuffs on opponents. For instance, Divinity (Trace Rifle) weakens and disrupts enemies that receive sustained damage. Meanwhile, Tractor Cannon (Shotgun) suppresses the abilities of enemies it pushes. Players should always choose Perks and abilities that weaken enemies in order to land more hits and score more damage.

3 Bait Chasers Into Doors

It can get irritating when Hunters have other players chasing them down, especially when they’ve taken damage. Unfortunately, Hunters on the defensive can easily die during a relentless pursuit. However, Hunters can bait chasers into unfortunate deaths with the right strategy. Essentially, Hunters can bait chasers into a trap provided they get to a nearby doorway. Chances are, overconfident enemies will try to enter the doorway and score the killing blow.

However, this is the tricky part. When Hunters enter a doorway, they need to gauge whether enemies are close to the doorway. If so, they need to trigger their Strafe Jump to get as high as possible, so enemies end up entering the doorway and right below the Hunter. In these situations, Hunters can just pummel the chaser in short-range or close in for the kill.

2 Bait Chasers Into Ledges

Alternatively, Hunters trapped in a chase can also rely on ledges to turn the tide of battle against pursuers. Essentially, Hunters should Gambler’s Dodge towards the edge of a ledge in order to “fall into” it. However, they should trigger their Strafe Jump as soon as their body disappears from the ledge’s view. That way, they can quickly jump onto the ground and be in front of the enemy.

Chances are, pursuers will already try to go to the ledge to secure the kill but never expect a rising target. Likewise, the surprise element can disorient pursuers close enough for players to maximize their DPS with their auto rifles.

1 Glitch In The System

Interestingly, Hunters familiar with their Jumps and Dodges can “break” the system by capitalizing on the game’s physics to work in their favor. For instance, Hunters should always keep an eye out for low-lying walls across maps to take full advantage of Strafe Jump.

Essentially, Hunters that hit the ceiling during a Strafe Jump will use the Jump’s momentum to “spring” themselves downward quickly. Interestingly, since hitting the floor recharges Strafe Jump, players can do this process again. In turn, Hunters can navigate low-lying corridors quickly by Strafe Jumping onto the ceiling. This helps Hunters chase targets faster to close in for the kill.

Meanwhile, players stuck in a tight spot can use Gambler’s Dodge alongside quick mouse movement to disorient enemies. Remember, the purple “flow” during Dodge animations will almost always tell enemies where players will land. However, messing with the mouse during Gambler’s Dodge will “glitch” the “flow” into appearing everywhere, therefore hiding the player’s real direction from the enemy.
