With the influx of video game remasters, remakes, and ports in the past few years, fans have felt a heavy sense of nostalgia for titles from their childhood. One Legend of Zelda fan took reminiscing to a whole other level by creating a video for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, and showing off what the classic game would look like if it was finally ported to the Nintendo Switch.
This is not the first time that fans have clamored for well-loved 3DS titles to be released for Nintendo’s current platform. However, with older Legend of Zelda games such as the Gameboy’s The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, and the recent Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity having been launched recently for the portable console, the series’ fandom has been lit with hopes that more games will be remastered, or at least ported, into the system, particularly Ocarina of Time.
One YouTube content creator named SnazzyAI recently showed fans exactly how The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D would look like if Nintendo decided to bring the game to the portable system. Taking the official Nintendo 3DS game reviews trailer from nine years ago, SnazzyAI upscaled the video trailer’s visuals to what players would normally see and experience while playing on the Switch. Throughout the video, viewers will be able to reminisce through the familiar in-game scenes, dungeons, bosses, and characters in Ocarina of Time, in an upgraded 1080P resolution and in 60FPS.
Known for his recent work in showing Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans what the game would look like in 4K, SnazzyAI mentioned in the video’s description box that since Nintendo already ported the game into the 3DS, it should be no problem for the company to bring the title to the Nintendo Switch. Commenters on the video thread readily agreed with SnazzyAI’s sentiments but some have mentioned that due to feasibility issues, Nintendo may opt to simply sell the game the same way it did with Super Mario 3D All-Stars. This means a simple port with no visual upgrades whatsoever.
Nevertheless, the video has once again sparked online conversation about the Legend of Zelda series and the other titles that fans want to see on the Switch, especially now that the franchise is hitting its 35th anniversary this 2021. With no solid updates from the company about the Breath of the Wild sequel, fans may have to appease themselves with player-created content such as SnazzyAI’s works as they wait for news about their favorite Legend of Zelda games.
