Grand Theft Auto 5: 10 Storylines That Would Have Made Great Single Player DLC

Not for nothing is Grand Theft Auto V among the games that have gone on to create Guinness World Records. The game has sold over 100 million units worldwide and its success has spanned across three console generations by this point. GTA Online has furthered the story, but the trio of leads have taken a backseat in importance.

This could have been changed had the developers decided to go through with the idea of single-player DLCs, which would have focused on the protagonists’ adventures in established storylines from GTA V. All of these had great potential to be told, so it’s worth checking these out and wondering what might have been.

10 Franklin And Lamar’s Repo Days

The beginning of Grand Theft Auto V showed Franklin and Lamar as repo men who were being swindled by their boss. The story instantly cut to Franklin’s adventures with Michael, leaving out enough of a backstory for a prequel DLC about his days with Lamar.

This could have been used to give Lamar a more fleshed out characterization, along with portraying how Franklin became the cynic he was by the events of GTA V. It could have also explained how Franklin got the ability of slowing down cars during gameplay.

9 Trevor’s Time Establishing Trevor Phillips Industries

There are a lot of weapons that players can use through Trevor in GTA V. And to be fair, missions about Trevor Philips Industries were included in the game. However, a DLC can make the whole story entirely about this enterprise with the focus being on Trevor to set it up as an unchallenged business.

It has the potential to be set either in the past or the future, with Trevor branching out from Michael and Franklin to build his own name. GTA V put the majority of the gameplay in the desert, so the DLC could have shifted the action more in the city.

8 Michael’s Push For ‘Meltdown’s’ Marketing

Rather than watch movies similar to GTA, fans can indulge in an actual movie within the game. Of course, Meltdown isn’t shown in its entirety in GTA V, but that could’ve been changed with a DLC that could have been all about marketing the movie.

GTA V only had a couple of missions about this, which means the DLC had a lot of material to build upon. The gameplay could have been set during filming, its marketing, and culminating by showing players the completed version of the film.

7 Partaking In Fame Or Shame

The Fame or Shame game was used to establish what a dummy Michael’s daughter was, with occasional skits showing how the game itself was moronic. Still, it sounds like a fun idea to partake in the game using the player character.

The DLC could have focused on the journey of winning Fame or Shame, with players starting out in the audition phase and moving up until it was time for America to vote for the winner. In true GTA fashion, the quirky humor would’ve been retained.

6 Flashback To Michael, Trevor, And Brad’s Robbery Days

In a game filled with many plotlines, the best story missions included the ones which focused on Michael and Trevor’s robbery days with Brad. Since a DLC doesn’t need to be a full-on game, there’s enough room to set a story in the past with these three friends.

The plot would have followed the trio at their peak as their robbery missions got more and more dangerous. The culmination of this was the beginning of the game and this was a good way of establishing the character of Brad, who was only referenced in GTA V.

5 Conflict Against The Lost MC

While The Lost MC has been featured in Grand Theft Auto Online, the group hasn’t taken center stage in any of the stories. A DLC that focuses on the group’s conflict with the main characters sounds like a great route to take in terms of storytelling.

Trevor exterminated the group with such ease in GTA V that it’s hard to believe that’s all there is to this club who have appeared in multiple games. To this end, a DLC where The Lost MC tries to take revenge is already set-up and only waiting to be played out.

4 Missions About Attacking The IAA

This can be an interquel, in that it’s set during the times where the heroes were being forced to clash with the IAA and make it weaker. Since GTA V’s story tends to skip time without making it too clear how much time has passed, it’s believable that the boys had more missions that just weren’t shown.

With this in mind, there can be a DLC that fully shows just how many missions the trio went through before they got the chance to get out of this situation.

3 The Trio Getting Their Enemies Off Their Backs

The Good ending of GTA V showed the friends tracking down all their enemies and killing them before they could do the same. While this was a nice way to round off the story, a DLC can easily show how there are more enemies remaining out there.

With a few extra guys left to be dealt with, this DLC can dive into just how Trevor, Franklin, and Michael finally got all their enemies off their backs. It’s also a good way to show what became of the factions whose bosses the protagonists had killed.

2 Michael’s Time At The Psychiatrist

Going to Michael’s shrink is one of the subplots of GTA V, with the doctor’s fees more expensive than anything else. Michael had the option to kill the shrink in an optional mission, but the DLC can be a prequel that shows the extent to which the doctor had annoyed him.

Gameplay can consist of going through with a bunch of tasks the shrink gives him while convincing Michael that this is part of his therapy. Missions like taking out rival psychiatrists and sealing deals for the shrink can combine to make a funny playthrough.

1 Franklin’s Attempts To Get Tanisha Back

Some of the arguments against GTA V being the best game of the last decade include how romantic options weren’t there. Franklin did have a former love interest in Tanisha, whom he clearly wanted back but didn’t make much of an effort winning over.

This can be fixed in the DLC where Franklin can show Tanisha that he’s changed and tries to get her to stop her plans of marrying her new love interest. Gameplay can consist of Franklin trying to sabotage the wedding or using his newfound wealth to impress Tanisha.
