Stardew Valley allows players to farm for crops, forage for wild plants, raise livestock, and mine valuable minerals. While these may seem simple enough, players also have the ability to benefit from their local waterways and catch fish.
Fish in Stardew Valley can be cooked, eaten, sold, and were recently given the opportunity to be put in fish tanks as of the Version 1.5 update. They are necessary in order to completely restore Pelican Town’s Community Center, however, if players are going down the Community Center game route.
For players new to Stardew Valley, fishing can be a little difficult. This is because it’s not just a timing minigame like fishing in other video games, but also because players need to keep the fishing bar on top of their fish in the menu. Here’s how to make this process easier.
To begin fishing, players first need to cast out their line into a body of water. Certain bodies of water have more fish than others, with the best odds being the ocean, the lake by the mines, and the rivers running through Pelican Town and the forest to the west. Other bodies of water may have much rarer fish that cannot be found anywhere else.
After casting out onto the water, players will need to wait for a bite. By equipping fishing rods that can hold bait, this will increase the rate of fish biting. As soon as a fish bites, players will need to click or press whatever button is mapped to their action in order to begin the fishing minigame.
Players will be presented with a meter that shows a little fish, a small green bar, and a large green bar to the side of the main meter. In order to catch the fish, players will need to fill the large green bar completely to the top. This can be done by keeping the small green bar constantly in contact with the small fish. The small green bar will rise a little as the player clicks, and it is affected by gravity. Players will need to pay attention to how the fish moves so they don’t lose contact with it.
If players lose contact with the fish for too long, the large green bar will start to sink. Once it runs out, players will lose the fish. There are, however, better rods and pieces of tackle that can be purchased from Willy to help make fishing in Stardew Valley easier.
Stardew Valley is available now on Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One.
