Goodwill Is Selling a 912-Pound Box of PlayStations | Game Rant

The PlayStation is one of the oldest and well known video game console lineages to ever exist. With five iterations of the system now under Sony’s belt, thousands upon thousands of games populating the libraries of each PlayStation console, and a large community of loyal fans, PlayStation consoles are some of the most well recognized gaming consoles in the world. Now, one lucky person will be able to buy an entire, 900 lb+ box filled to the brim with PlayStation consoles.

Due to the inherent longevity of PlayStation consoles, there are a lot of them on the market and have been mass produced for a large number of years. In fact, after releasing in 2000, the PlayStation 2 was finally discontinued in January of 2013, with practically all of the other iterations maintaining a similarly long lifespan. Needless to say, with consoles in production for that long, a lot of manufactured units still exist on the market today.

As a result, given how disposable the medium of video games is, what with technology constantly evolving, a lot of older consoles end up at at a Goodwill, albeit usually one console at a time. However, according to Twitter user Goodwill Goblin, at a particular Goodwill, a gigantic box that weighed approximately 912 pounds showed up containing nothing but PlayStation 2’s, PlayStation 3‘s, and PlayStation 4’s.

While the consoles only come by themselves, some might beg to question why anyone would buy more than one of the same console. Some people actually make a living selling refurbished consoles. Something like this where it’s just a box containing hundreds of different consoles, simply repairing, refurbishing, and reselling could bring in quite a lot of money. Then again, the PlayStation 4 isn’t exactly old enough to be a collectible console like the PS2 or even the PS3 at this point.

It’s amazing to think how back when these console first launched, at each point in history, they were the very best that technology had to offer and were held in the same high regard by gaming enthusiasts as the PS5, though obviously there wasn’t as much high demand for them comparatively. Yet, now, consumers can just buy a box filled with nothing but game consoles and it would only cost a fraction of what they individually retailed at when they first released.

In any case, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for PlayStation. With the PS5 currently going in and out of stock among retailers, it’s impossible to know when the demand for the console will start to die down. Although, looking at this gigantic box full of PlayStation consoles, it makes one wonder how long it will take before the PS5 meets a similar fate.
