Hitman 3 carry over website continues to have issues as IO works on fixes

New Hitman 3 owners looking to bring over their career progress from Hitman 2 are stumped.

Yesterday’s launch of Hitman 3 wasn’t as smooth as developer IO Interactive or players would have hoped. Though the game itself is fine, the website designed to help players bring forward their Hitman 2 progress has been having major issues.

Even at the time of this writing, the site is still not working as intended. The two biggest problems experienced by players either prevent them from being able to log in at all, or cause the transfer process to fail at the very end.

This is particularly frustrating for Hitman 2 players with hours of progress, because transferring that to Hitman 3 is a process that needs to be done before playing Hitman 3. That’s because old progress wipes new Hitman 3 progress, meaning players with a long history of unlocks, location mastery, challenge completion and profile XP are essentially locked out of playing the new game.

To its credit, IO Interactive has been active on Twitter, confirming early on that it’s aware of the problem and working on a fix. The developer said that “thousands of players” are trying to jump in at the same time, causing a massive hit to servers.

The good news is that even if the transfer request fails, it will still be placed on a queue viewed by IO, so it will be approved sooner or later. IO is also “escalating” the issue where some players can’t reset their password because the reset email never arrives.

“We’re doing everything we can and reading all your comments while we work,” IO wrote on Twitter at the time.

The developer tweeted again a couple of hours later saying, “We hope many of you are enjoying the game & we’re continuing to make progress on fixing server issues. We want to get you (& your progress) in the game ASAP. In the next few hours, our updates will be less frequent – thanks for your patience!”

This comes just a couple of days after confusing statements on the state of license transfers, specifically on PC. Though this isn’t a problem on consoles, IO’s decision to publish the game exclusively on the Epic Store meant that PC players may not be able to bring forward Hitman 2 levels without re-buying the game on the Epic Store.

The developer later issued another statement to clarify that it’s working on a solution so that PC players don’t have to buy Hitman 2 again.

All these problems aside, Hitman 3 is a pretty good game, hey.
