The battle between premiere subscription services Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus continues to rage on, with both platforms offering free games for members. PS Plus’ free game offerings are already surging ahead of its subscription cost, and its list of games for February 2021 looks to continue the trend. One of those games, Destruction AllStars, dropped a new trailer today that showcases several playable characters.
Destruction AllStars is a vehicular combat game that was announced in June 2020 alongside the reveal of the new PlayStation 5. Although initially announced as a launch title, the game’s release was delayed, and it has since been revealed that Destruction AllStars will be one of February’s free PS Plus games. The game will feature online play with several different multiplayer game modes as well as a single-player Challenge mode. Each of the game’s playable characters will have special abilities that assist them in smashing other vehicles, and today’s trailer featured several characters and their unique vehicles.
Though not all of the 16 playable characters are present in the trailer, there’s a lot to like watching the all-stars show off their rides and abilities. Ultimo Barricado is a muscle man whose car is equipped with deployable armor that allows him to smash hood-first into other vehicles. Boxtop has a box on his head, and he spends part of the trailer running around and tossing out explosive mini boxes to hinder other all-stars. The colorful, tech-heavy arenas look a bit like Rocket League, but in Destruction AllStars players will also have the ability to cause mayhem outside of their vehicles.
Other characters featured in the free PS Plus game for February 2021 include Twinkle Riot, a gamer with a screen helmet that cruises around in a cute slug bug-styled car; and Genesis, who seems to be particularly fast and boasts a sleek vehicle with turbo engines. Each competitor is diverse and ready to battle it out for the ultimate prize of the Global Destruction Federation Championship.
Destruction AllStars may prove to be a solid first step when it comes to Sony’s bigger plans for PS Plus on PS5. Destruction AllStars will be on PS Plus on day one of its release, and players will have a full two months to claim the game. Along with more available free PS4 games to be played via backward compatibility, PS Plus continues to bolster its offerings, and holds its own alongside the library of free titles offered by Xbox Game Pass. For PS Plus subscribers, Destruction AllStars is just one of the many reasons to get excited for February.
Destruction AllStars will be free on PS Plus in February 2021, exclusively for PS5.
