Capcom has been teasing bits and pieces about its upcoming Resident Evil 8: Village for months, but today the Resident Evil Showcase livestream told fans just about everything they need to know about the highly anticipated next entry in the long-running survival horror franchise. It has been confirmed that Resident Evil 8 will release on May 7, 2021, with free next-gen upgrades and a multiplayer companion game called Resident Evil Re:Verse.
However, one thing many fans likely latched onto from this showcase was the announcement of both the Deluxe and Collector’s Edition sets for the upcoming game. While a showcase of Resident Evil 8‘s gameplay improvements following up Resident Evil 7 likely drew many players in, the bonuses that come with these limited-edition sets should encourage some to spend extra.
The $69.99 Deluxe Edition comes with a “Trauma Pack” that will let players “heighten their survival horror experience with extra content” including a filter based on RE7‘s found footage scenes, new save room music, and access to the “Max Difficulty” setting. However, the $219.99 Collector’s Edition comes with all of that and more: a figurine based on returning character Chris Redfield, a poster, an artbook, and a steelbook case; all packaged inside a box that looks like a sticker-adorned suitcase.
On top of those two special edition sets, Capcom is also offering a Resident Evil bundle that includes RE7: Biohazard and RE8: Village, chronicling the full journey of returning protagonist Ethan Winters thus far. The bundle can be pre-ordered now for $79.99, and will include the Gold Edition of Biohazard as well as the Deluxe Edition of Village.
Chris Redfield has been a major character in the Resident Evil franchise since its first installment released in 1996. He appears at the end of Resident Evil 7 and plays a role in its DLC, which has seemingly helped to establish his more prominent appearance in Resident Evil 8 – including its marketing. Long-time fans with a connection to the character will likely be drawn to the figure included in this upcoming Collector’s Edition, even if it exponentially increases the price.
For those who can’t wait to get their hands on the next Resident Evil game, Capcom has put out a little something to tide fans over. The Maiden, a standalone PS5 demo for Resident Evil 8 set in Castle Dimitrescu, is available to play now, and something for other platforms will be released at a later date. This, alongside more content, should pave the way for Resident Evil‘s 25th anniversary to be a good one.
Resident Evil 8: Village will release on May 7, 2021, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
