Grand Theft Auto Online features a ton of activities for players to enjoy, such as deathmatches, heists, odd jobs, races, flight school, and more. However, players can take it a step further by creating their own activities using the Rockstar Editor, which allows players to make videos, edit, and add effects in-game. One player has recreated a fan-favorite racing title from 2004 with an impressive montage of gameplay and previews for game modes within the Rockstar Editor.
The nine-minute video shared by Reddit user LucasRPDJ starts out with the intro song “Lazy Generation” by the F-Ups for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 game Burnout 3. The intro matches the original title sequence perfectly, then shifts to video of Grand Theft Auto Online racing. The video features over-the-top action just like Burnout 3 with violent car crashes and explosions galore.
Even though the video is captured within GTA 5, it features a full game menu that matches Burnout 3 with mode options, a network select screen, and a menu to choose a number of Grand Theft Auto 5 super cars. Throughout the video, multiple Burnout 3 game modes can be seen including the Road Rage, Burning Lap, and Eliminator modes. The video also shows off the classic Burnout UI along with game features like boosts, takedowns, cinematic crashes, and race rewards including cash for crashes and special event postcards from the original game.
The Grand Theft Auto 5 graphics and cars mixed with the Burnout 3 UI and game modes makes this video impressive to watch. The video could make any Burnout 3 fan want to return to the game, or wish for an actual remake by EA.
However, EA and Criterion Games apparently do not have any plans to release a new Burnout despite the franchise being well-received by fans. The latest Burnout title to be remastered was Burnout Paradise on PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2018, and the Nintendo Switch received a port of the remaster just last year.
However, Burnout developer Criterion Games released a remastered version of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit in November of 2020 and received mostly positive reviews for the improvements to the game. Criterion Games is said to be working on another Need for Speed title that is expected to release later this year. It is not known if the studio will ever work on another Burnout title, but with no news on the franchise recently, another title in the franchise would likely be far off in the future.
Grand Theft Auto Online is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are in development.
