Rockstar Games Forces Popular GTA Online Cheat Site to Shut Down

Throughout recent gaming history, online games have always been a great way for friends to get together to settle grudges or blow off steam for a good time, especially now during the quarantine. And GTA Online has been a safe haven for fans to enjoy countless hours with friends, especially with the new GTA Online Cayo Perico Heist update.

However, a problem that has been plaguing multiplayer games for a while is the abundant amount of online cheaters in games. One of the popular GTA Online cheat websites, “LunaCheats,” is widely known for the mod menu with cheats like god mode, height adjustment, and turning invisible. Many hackers use it for how easily accessible it is. These hacks would even allow gamers to blow up other players, destroy their vehicles, and kick them out of lobbies. And if fans wanted to report them, the hackers could block it and crash their game.

Though some of the hacks are not harmful, there are still too many gamers who take cheats too far and ruin the game environment for everyone else. So today, Rockstar Studios and Take-Two Interactive have made a huge leap to getting rid of these hackers. As of now, the LunaCheats website has been ordered to shut down and stop distributing cheats.

There is now an apology message from the owners on the website that says, based on the discussion with Take-Two Interactive, the company is ceasing all maintenance, distribution, and development of cheat menu services. Not only that, but LunaCheats is also donating all of its proceeds to a charity that was chosen by Take-Two Interactive.

Before this, Rockstar Studios and Take-Two Interactive would normally only go after the individual accounts of players who have used cheat codes. In a way, Rockstar Games would troll players who used cheats by exploding hackers’ cars in GTA Online and removing counterfeit money. While it is justified, it did little to actually curb the overall problem of cheats within the game.

LunaCheats ends the statement by apologizing for all the damages it has done to the community. While this won’t permanently put an end to online hackers in GTA Online, it is definitely a step in the right direction for Rockstar Studios and Take-Two Interactive. It will be interesting to see if Rockstar Studios and Take-Two Interactive will continue the fight against other popular websites. Hopefully, the companies will be able to make GTA Online a safe and fair battleground for all gamers.

Grand Theft Auto Online is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are in development.
