The Wonder Boy franchise is a Sega property that the company has made efforts to revitalize in recent years. Prominent in the 1980s, Wonder Boy games brought colorful characters and simple platforming action to gamers. Multiple games in the franchise have been updated for modern consoles, With Wonder Boy 1 and 3 given the remake treatment. Now, the fourth game in the Wonder Boy series is being revived, and a new trailer shows off what players will be doing in Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World.
Monster World 4 was originally released on Sega Genesis in 1994. The only way players outside of Japan could jump into this game previously was on the Wii Virtual Console, so this remake, Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World, will be many folks’ first chance to play the game. It comes on the heels of the Monster Boy and The Cursed Kingdom, a spiritual successor to Wonder Boy 3, which is also being ported to PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World‘s latest trailer sets the stage for the narrative driving Asha, and features a fair amount of gameplay. Asha has lively animation and the platforming and combat segments of the game look to provide some challenge without being too punishing. The character designs are cute, with a kind of Dragon Quest vibe to them.
The trailer promotes the fact that “the original team returns to bring new life to the retro classic,” and it is encouraging to see folks that worked on the game back then excited enough to return for a remake. With Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World set for release this year, it won’t be long before fans get to try the game out.
Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World will release in Q2 2021 for PC, PS4, and Switch.
