Hitman 3 Could Add Ray-Tracing on Xbox Series X in Future Updates

The latest Hitman game has arrived, and it has quickly become the talk of the video game world for the month of January. Hitman 3 is arguably an excellent video game that gives freedom to the player, allowing them to take down targets through stealth and espionage while traveling all over the world. However, the Xbox Series X/S version of the game does not seem to take full advantage of next-generation technology, but that soon could change.

Hitman 3 is a multiplatform title, but each version seems to have something unique. For example, Hitman 3 is on the Nintendo Switch via cloud technology, and there is even a version of Hitman 3 on PS VR that can be enjoyed. As far as the Xbox Series X/S version, there are some interesting features still coming to the game that could help it stand out.

Recently the CTO of IO Interactive, Maurizio de Pascale, sat down with Will Tuttle, the Editor in Chief at Xbox Wire, to discuss Hitman 3. One of the questions that the two tackled was future enhancements that IO Interactive is excited about. As of now, Hitman 3 does not utilize ray-tracing on the Xbox Series X/S, or any version of the game. However, the team has already started working on changing that.

Pascale says that the GPU of the Xbox Series X/S is fantastic and that being able to support ray-tracing is something that he is excited about. And although Hitman 3 launched without ray-tracing, IO Interactive has already been working on implementing ray-tracing within Hitman 3 via an update using its Glacier Engine, which is what the upcoming James Bond 007 game will use.

It’s great that the GPU in the Series X|S has hardware support for Ray-Tracing. We’ve already started working on RT technology for the renderer in our Glacier engine, and once that’s deemed ready for prime time, we’ll definitely bring it to the Series X|S hardware.

IO Interactive’s stealth game is, in many ways, considered a “live game” in that it is continuing to be developed, even after its June 20th launch. While certainly not considered the episodic game that Hitman (2016) was, the team will be working on adding content and features via continual updates. So while Pascale was not ready to reveal when ray-tracing would be ready for Hitman 3 on the Xbox Series X/S, it should come at some point.

Hitman 3 is a game full of surprises, as there are Easter eggs aplenty and the game can be quite comical. But IO Interactive is not quite done developing the game, as there is much more to come. Whether it be more content or features that will take better advantage of the next-gen content, Agent 47 looks to have an even more fleshed out experience in the months to come.

Hitman 3 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
