BioShock Creator Ken Levine May Finally Reveal His Next Game This Year

Though players have yet to hear or see any definitive details regarding Ken Levine’s next game, Ghost Story Games has been hard at work behind the scenes. For those who may not know, Levine founded Ghost Story Games in 2017 alongside 12 former Irrational Games developers, and serves as the studio’s president and creative director.

However, while the studio has yet to release a game in that time span, the team has apparently been hard at work behind the scenes readying their first project for the public eye. Now, Ken Levine has once again broken his silence on the project’s development, if only to tease that there’s a chance the game will see the light of day sometime this year.

The confirmation comes by way of Levine’s own personal Twitter account, where he tweeted out asking for his followers to send him questions. One follower asked if any new announcements would be coming from Ghost Story in 2021, to which Levine responded there was a “non-zero chance” that a game announcement would be made. However, Levine also said he makes no promises on that front, so there’s still the chance that the studio will remain silent this year as well. Seeing as Levine is a very prolific creative force in the gaming industry, it makes sense that he would not want to jump the gun and announce a game to the general public before it was ready to be seen.

Still, Ghost Story Games will be four years old this February, which is a decent chunk of time to be working on a game. Fans know for sure that Ghost Story’s project has entered the later stages of development, so the game has steadily been progressing further along these past few years. While the announcement and reveal may be a ways off still, fans aren’t completely in the dark as to what Ghost Story Games’ project will be. Levine has said in the past that his next game will be an open-world FPS title that will feature “very fluid relationships” with characters that change dynamically.

Additionally, players know that the game will feature a high level of replayability. Also known is that Levine’s next game will be weird and that people might think it’s “a little insane,” according to the man himself. As for what the game won’t be, players should know that it will not be set in any preexisting universe. Finally, it won’t have a traditional three act structure and will instead use a a chapter-like method of storytelling.

Though it may be a bit of a bummer that Levine isn’t working on Bioshock 4, the title is in development by a new studio called Cloud Chamber which was set up by 2K to tackle the next entry. Besides, anything with Levine at the creative helm is likely to share DNA with Bioshock in some way, shape, or form. If there’s one thing that’s certain, it’s that any creative project in Levine’s hands is sure to be quite the ride. Hopefully, those looking forward to what Levine and Ghost Story Games have in store for them get some good news this year.
