Among Us Sheriff Mod Adds a Fun Twist on Impostor Game

Killing people in Among Us is one of the most enjoyable elements of the game; it’s what makes Impostor such a coveted role, as they’re the only individuals capable of doing it. Crewmates are relegated to just doing tasks around the ship, and while that can be fun, it’s much more of a passive role compared to the active one Impostors have, where they hunt around the chosen Among Us map trying to figure out ways to get away with murder.

Crewmates can certainly try and do some detective work while they’re performing their duties, but it’s a good way to get killed. It’s cool if a player catches an Impostor by noticing them move in suspicious ways around the map, but it doesn’t do much good if they can’t call an Emergency Meeting or convince their teammates to vote off the individual they suspect. For all of these reasons and more, the new Among Us Sheriff mod is one of the most enjoyable in the game.

How the Among Us Sheriff mod works is very simple: It gives one random crewmate a Kill button and the objective to hunt down Impostors. Since Sheriffs are on the crewmates’ team, they have no idea who their teammates are. It’s up to them to use their wits to figure out who the Impostors are and kill them. Herein lies another one of the role’s twists: If a Sheriff mistakenly targets a crew member with their kill button, they’ll kill themselves instead.

These attributes allow the Sheriff role to provide new ways to play Among Us. For example, if a Sheriff does mess up their deduction and ends up killing themselves in front of witnesses, then, at the very least, they’ll have completely cleared a fellow crew member. If Impostors want to gamble on having killed the Sheriff, they can pretend that they’re the Sheriff and kill with impunity. Overall, the role provides angles to Among Us that don’t generally exist.

At the moment, Among Us content updates are slow and will be for the foreseeable future, but hopefully, Innersloth decides to implement fan-modded roles like the Sheriff. Among Us is one of the few social deduction games that actually doesn’t have many delegated roles, which makes sense considering Innersloth never expected the game to blow up the way it did. Now that it has, though, roles like Sheriff and others provided by various Among Us mods will certainly help keep the game fresh.

Among Us is on Mobile, PC, and Switch with Xbox One and Xbox Series X versions in development.
