The first Super Mario Bros. 35 World Count Challenge is winding down and players have quickly started building up the total number of Bowser kills needed in order to complete the event in time. In fact, if Nintendo’s current calculations are anything to go by, players may have already won the challenge by now, with the prize for completing the first Super Mario Bros. 35 World Count Challenge right around the corner.
This new event, is a weeklong global challenge for players to reach Bowser’s Castle in Super Mario Bros. 35 and defeat the boss a seemingly impossible number of times, until fans consider exactly how many people are participating. Considering that players often run into Bowser multiple times during a match, reaching the goal might not have actually been quite as impossible as it originally appeared.
The goal that Nintendo set for players was to defeat Bowser 3.5 million times over the course of a single week of playing through a special Super Mario Bros. 35 course. As players have continued to dive into the challenge, starting on January 18th, fans managed to face Bowser and get through the boss encounter almost 1.5 million times as of January 20th. This was only two days after the initial launch of the World Count Challenge, and there have since been five more days for players to continue to dive into the event and defeat even more Bowsers.
This could potentially mean that by the time that Nintendo announced this number on January 25th, players may have already reached the goal long before the end of the event. What this might mean for future Super Mario Bros. 35 events is still up in the air, but some fans already think that Nintendo might have made the whole challenge too easy. So, it’s entirely possible that the next event to come to the game will be considerably more difficult, since it seems that players are eager to throw themselves wholeheartedly at these challenges.
A good live event in Super Mario Bros. 35 can be a huge benefit for these types of titles that function entirely by being connected online. Bringing the community together to work on a combined goal can work especially well in a game that is otherwise entirely competitive, where the core mechanics pits players against each other. However, as neat as this Bowser event has been, Nintendo will hopefully aim a bit higher next time and make the community really feel like they have to work for it in order to reach the goals the company sets out for them.
Super Mario Bros. 35 is available now for Switch.
