Industry Insider Claims The Elder Scrolls 6 Won’t Arrive Until 2026

It’s been nearly three years now since The Elder Scrolls 6 was officially announced by Bethesda. However, with said announcement only really consisting of a brief CGI teaser trailer, it very much suggested that the game was still a long way off from releasing. And with how little Bethesda has actually talked about it, that’s only become more apparent.

This was only amplified when Bethesda’s vice president Pete Hines said that Elder Scrolls 6 news was years away and won’t be releasing until after Starfield (which also doesn’t have a release date). And now one industry insider believes that the game won’t see release until either 2026 or even 2027.

Tyler McVicker, who reports on studios like Bethesda, Valve, and Nintendo, shared his prediction over Twitter. He adds that while Starfield is undoubtedly the next Bethesda release, that likely won’t release for another year of two, which wouldn’t be that surprising considering how little is also known about that game. Since the announcement teaser, the only piece of information about the game to have come out was a few leaked screenshots.

While the prospect of needing to wait at least another five years for Elder Scrolls 6 may be upsetting or infuriating for fans who may have worn themselves out playing Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim for the 40th time, the heavy expectations for it are likely a contributing factor to Bethesda’s silence and the long wait.

After all, Cyberpunk 2077 was undeniably one of, if not the most anticipated releases of 2020, but it has since transpired that many who worked on the game didn’t think it was ready for a 2020 release. CD Projekt’s insistence on having it out by the end of the year backfired, tarnishing the company’s reputation and now serving as a cautionary tale for other studios.

On top of that, Bethesda has its hands full with other projects at the moment. While Starfield looks to be the next major release, it announced Todd Howard was producing a new Indiana Jones game as well, though it was later clarified that it wouldn’t impact development on either Starfield or Elder Scrolls 6.

There are also concerns of whether the likes of Elder Scrolls 6 will be strictly Xbox exclusives, now that Microsoft has bought out Bethesda. It would make sense, especially as the Xbox Series X/S is lacking major exclusives at the moment, but Todd Howard seemed to ease fans’ worries when he said it was “hard to imagine” Elder Scrolls games being exclusive to a single platform.

The Elder Scrolls 6 is in development.
