In Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood, players will take control of Cahal, a shapeshifting eco-terrorist fighting against the Endron mega-corporation. Cahal is an experienced fighter able to take advantage of three different forms, including wolf form (Lupus), human form (Homid), and werewolf form (Crinos). Nacon, publisher for Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood, dropped a trailer today that shows off the carnage each form is capable of.
Cahal is a Garou, a race created to defend the Earth from those who would seek to destroy it. His abilities allow him to choose between silently dispatching enemies or embracing his rage and beating targets to a pulp. An earlier gameplay trailer for Werewolf: The Apocalypse gave players an in-depth look at Cahal’s tactics when exploring an Endron factory, but the latest trailer shows Cahal’s three forms at their most efficient.
Cahal’s first form is the Lupus, and as a wolf he excels at moving around quickly. This form is used primarily for exploring Cahal’s surroundings or stealthily bypassing Endron guards. There also seem to be passageways that only the wolf form can enter, which might provide opportunities for flanking an enemy to get a silent kill. For those who enjoy the stealth elements in game series like Metal Gear Solid and Assassin’s Creed, this will be the form to experiment with.
The second is Cahal’s Homid form, which will be best at social interaction but can also be useful in stealth sections. In the trailer, Cahal’s human form comes equipped with a crossbow he can use to snipe enemies without being seen. The human form also specializes in interacting with environmental obstacles, such as hacking a computer or shutting down power.
Finally, Cahal’s biggest form is Crinos. The werewolf form is driven by rage, can trounce humanoid enemies, and fight big mechs. It can also carry around hapless Endron workers like rag dolls and rip them apart or chuck them at other enemies. As a werewolf, Cahal will have two different stances and will rely on a rage meter. Once the rage meter builds up, Cahal can perform special moves to do greater damage and finish off his foes. However, if Cahal is struck by a silver bullet in his werewolf form, a chunk of his health will be permanently removed for the current fight.
Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood is based off of a tabletop RPG set in the World of Darkness, sharing the same setting with another tabletop RPG, Vampire: The Masquerade. The World of Darkness mythology has seen its characters and stories translated to several different games, including a recent visual novel experience, Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Heart of The Forest. Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood is the first action game to be made from the tabletop series, and by the look of this latest trailer it has plenty of diverse gameplay.
Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood will release on February 4, 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
