Elden Ring is FromSoftware Games‘ upcoming and highly anticipated title. It will once again be directed by the man himself, Hidetaka Miyazaki, with George R.R. Martin as a writing collaborator. Fans of both writers are incredibly excited for this game, but so far, there’s very little material out there that details what the game is going to be like.
There is, however, the announcement trailer that came out at E3 2019. Despite only being two minutes and 20 seconds short, fans have scoured this short video to gather info on the upcoming title. Thankfully, there is a lot of information there that reveals a glance of FromSoftware’s upcoming outing.
10 The Blacksmith
The very first character that’s seen in the trailer is a blacksmith hammering down on an anvil. It can be speculated that the item the blacksmith is hammering down here is the Elden Ring itself.
Even though Miyazaki has stated in an interview that the Elden Ring isn’t a physical thing, but rather, a concept that acts as a force that ties the world in the game. However, this act could be seen as a “shattering” of a world-binding concept, leading to severe implications that is later on seen in the trailer.
9 The Multiple Arms
During one of the most memorable scenes in the trailer, a kneeling, crowned man or woman is shown to hold up a severed hand. Several other hands later appear to hold the severed hand up as well.
There are a total of eight arms holding up that one severed hand. If looked at closely, all of these arms belong to this one person. A few of the arms also look like they’ve been abnormally attached to the person’s body, almost as if the arms were collected and pieced together to the body somehow.
8 The Twitching Hand
The kneeling person, who seems to be a person of royalty judging by the crown on his or her head, doesn’t simply hold the severed hand up. The hand is actually worn, and it even twitches just before the scene ends.
Whether the person wearing the hand managed to control it by fitting it like a glove or via magic is unknown, but one thing is clear. That hand looks clearly fresh. It has not faded in color yet and the blood by the arm’s opening looks to be fresh.
7 That Which Commanded The Stars
Every time the blacksmith hammers down on the anvil, which can be presumed as him shattering the ring, there are immediate effects that can be seen on screen.
First off, the ground seems to be shattered with the epicenter leading to the anvil itself. Every time the blacksmith hammers down, the thing he is hammering seems to emulate a very bright light, which means its resistance is immense, which coincides with the narrator’s comments on how this ring commands the stars.
6 The Red-Haired Woman
Severed arms look to be recurring imagery in this trailer. About one minute in, the trailer shows a red-haired woman with a severed arm. She then brings up either her severed arm or a prosthetic arm and reattaches it to her body.
Her other arm also looks to have cracked skin as well, similar to the blacksmith shown earlier in the trailer. As for her arm, if it was indeed a prosthetic, it will be interesting to see how that will play out during the game, similar to how Sekiro used prosthetic arms.
5 Toll On The Blacksmith’s Body
Later on in the trailer, the blacksmith once again makes an appearance. He is performing the very same action he’s been doing, hammering on and on again. This time though, the toll on the blacksmith’s body can be seen if looked upon closely.
As the blacksmith lowers his hammer to strike, the visible crack shown on his back seems to expand and shatter even more. The crack grows longer and its afflictions look even darker and deeper.
4 Shattered By Someone Or Something
Around halfway through the trailer, the narrator talks about how the Elden Ring is shattered by someone or something. Visually, a lance-wielding warrior is seen piercing his weapon to the belly of his enemy. After which, a visual representation of a circular material, perhaps, a ring, is shown breaking.
If this has any narrative implication, this could mean that the Elden Ring is tied to multiple beings, which is reflective of how Miyazaki tells stories in his previous Souls games. The more these beings are destroyed, the more shattered the Elden Ring becomes.
3 The Woman
Right after the scene that shows a ring breaking, a blonde-haired woman appears facing away from the screen. She looks to be holding some fort of staff or handle. It even looks to be made of the very same material as the blacksmith’s hammer, shown earlier in the trailer.
The woman is also shown to have the same cracks on her back as the blacksmith. Whatever her relationship is with the blacksmith, it is clear that both characters have ties to the Elden Ring, if not similar to everyone in this world. She also falls down later on the same way the blacksmith does, right after the ring is supposedly shattered.
2 The Burning Warrior
Amidst a corpse-ridden battlefield and beneath a bleeding red sky is a fallen warrior hanging on to dear life, right before he or she burns or fades. This warrior’s garments look to have the same ornamental design as the one-armed warrior shown earlier in the trailer. They even have the same red-haired character design.
It seems both characters are at least tied to another, either as members of the same guild or for whichever reason still unknown. This warrior also seems to be the same one the lance-wielding warrior earlier pierced his weapon on.
1 The Power Of The Elden Ring
Throughout the entire trailer, the narrator talks about the power of the Elden Ring, almost to an affectionate degree. Judging by his narration alone, it seems like the Elden Ring, or the concept of it, is the very thing that keeps life in this world intact.
Each time the blacksmith hammers down on the ring, cracks appear on his flesh. The other characters are also shown to have the same deformity. Finally, the narrator tells the viewer to look up at the sky. The sky is exhibiting an intense red hue, burning, as it were. This is likely an effect of the shattering of the Elden Ring, how its shattering can lead to the destruction of the world.
